The S2 Modern Studies Course builds upon the learning experience in S1. It enables pupils to develop the skills and competencies required for progression to the senior phase in Modern Studies. The course is split into themes of democracy, world powers, social issues, international issues and crime & the law. The pupils will build skills in structuring answers, as well as dealing with statistical source evidence and data. Critical studying and debating is integrated within the course and will help pupils to develop not only their knowledge but many of the critical soft skills needed later in life.
Units covered are as follows:
Crime: Drugs in the UK vs Mexico - comparing similarities and differences
War and Peace: defining conflict, its’ causes and international response
UK Poverty - causes and responses
China - global influence and internal issues
Skills development – Support and Oppose, Conclusion and Option Choice Questions
Debating – Development of research and presentation skills
