Throughout the study of Geography at S2, young people will develop their general geographic knowledge and understanding of the world by learning about other people and places; they also increase their understanding of the physical environment and the various processes shaping it. Within S2 Geography there are five main topics:
ICELAND - LAND OF FIRE & ICE: this topic develops knowledge of the physical environment by looking at earth structure, volcanoes and glaciation.
NIGERIA - THE GIANT OF AFRICA: this topic develops knowledge of the human environment and how this can be affected by global issues. It looks at population structure, migration and problems within informal settlements.
INDONESIA - THE EMERALD OF THE EQUATOR: this topic develops knowledge of global issues. It looks at plastic problems and climate change and Tourism
JAPAN - THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN: this topic develops knowledge of physical and human environments. It recalls earth structure, looks at earthquakes and population problems.
AUSTRALIA - THE LAND DOWN UNDER: this topic develops knowledge of the physical environment and how this can be affected by global issues. It looks at coasts and coral reefs.

Throughout each unit young people will develop their geographical skills in using atlases and maps. This will include longitude and latitude, distance and scale, map symbols and four and six figure grid references. These are invaluable life skills but will also support learning further up the school in National 5 Geography and beyond.
