P5 2024-25
Welcome to Primary 5's webpage with Miss Main!
Find our spelling words here every week (as well as google classroom) to help and support your practise at home!
We are so proud of our focus, effort and motivation during our daily writing experiences! Well done to Skye and Maksym who achieved success!
We are super excited to share some of our numeracy approaches during our open afternoon!
During the session the pupils will have the chance to share some of the characters and terminology from our Big Maths resource.
Click here to learn more about the characters and terminology.

Star of the week!
Well done to our week 6 start of the week!
We were so fortunate to have a visit from RNCI Countryside Classroom on Wheels today to support our local topic. We learned lots about the variety of foods produced in our local area and discussed the importance of different types of agriculture in the production of these foods. We were even lucky enough to meet a 1 week old calf from Mackie's farm called Missy!
Creating art with our loose parts!
Deepening our knowledge and understanding of angles and triangles within our soft start! Such focus and success this morning!
Google classroom has a homework tab that provides the children with work to complete, as and when it is relevant to their learning. Already, we have had some fantastic interactions for the tasks set.
We now have our homework jotters up and running. They include your child's spelling words alongside an activity grid. Spelling practise is an expectation every week and therefore will not be duplicated onto the homework tab (it is already on google classroom and the website, as well as printed in their jotter). Again, if it is relevant, Miss Main will send numeracy/ maths sheets home to support practise at home.

Outdoor learning fun! We had an enthusiastic day with teambuilding and problem solving... in the SUN!!
showing off our number pattern skills to create our own multiplication polygon!! We have developed our shape skills using a ruler over the past few weeks, making this experience fun and exciting!
making the most of the beautiful sunshine at the end of our busy day!
Achieving success this morning in our soft start, we love listening to sentences our classmates create with our chosen word! We are also continuing to develop our confidence with calculating missing angles in our soft start too!
When identifying and creating 3D nets in our maths sessions, we used our resource to support our literacy. We have created our literacy dice. Our literacy dice will support our understanding of the 'parts of speech' in sentences.
Silly sentences:
We were split into trios with Miss Main's special characters and had to find the rest of our trio (randomiser). The children then had 6 minutes to roll the dice and write down a work that matched the face the dice lanced on. After 6 minutes, we read our silly sentences (that did not make sense!!) and had a discussion about what words came from what face. We had so much fun being silly, yet still learning!
Primary 5 are currently focusing on our hand - eye coordination.
We are using a racket and soft ball to build up our control.
at the end of our PE session today, we did a relay race to showcase our control and hand-eye coordination when moving.
Skye was so proud of her work this morning, working independently during her soft start! Well done Skye, awsome work!
Using our previous targets in CLIC, as our soft start this week to go deeper with our understanding and to promote challenge.

I- jigsaw numbers! finding the missing piece to 1000.
in our jigsaw, our units column should add to 10, every other value should add to 9.
example: (584 + ? = 1000)
start with the units, 4 to 10= 6
then move to the tens, 8 to 9= 1
then move to hundreds, 5 to 9= 4

Fantastic effort this week in primary 5, well done to every child achieving a personal goal recognised on our achievment board!
Good job boys!
Such a successful learner and confident individual today! Well done!
Hello 3D shape!!
We have had quite a literacy based Monday morning, the boys decided their brain break between spelling and writing was going to be puzzles! They worked so well together, caring for others and the resource!
We were very fortunate to join p4/5 on their trip to the science centre on Friday! We had so much fun exploring renewable energy and the positive impact it is having on our current world! This visit links with our current topic in science, looking at our chosen climate activist Greta Thunberg and the positive changes we can make to save our planet!

Week 1 in primary 5!
Term 1 overview!
Our morning soft start is called challenge your brain. This morning experience allows the children to start school by coming into a calming environment where the children are working independently. The literacy task involves the children using their dictionary skills to find a specific word of the day. The children then use the definition found to form a fantastic 5 star sentence. The numeracy task involves prior knowledge (no new learning, just recapping and deepening their knowledge). This 20 minute soft start gives children time to complete their lunch, complete their emotional check in and work independently- resulting in a settled class ready for their day.
Interdisciplinary learning
(topic)
Our first topic is caring citizens. We are developing our classroom expectations and routines whilst learning about our community and what it takes to be a caring citizen.
We will then move onto our local topic 'Follow the Faulds Gate road' where the children will research and develop their knowledge about their local area Kincorth, and Aberdeen. We will explore important places that help and support our community including transportation and annual events in our area.
ERIC
Everybody Reading In Class
Our current class novel is:
Paddington Bear
Here and now
PE
Our PE this term we are learning about fitness and how to develop our movement skills.
French
We will be speaking French daily through our soft start/registration saying greetings and days of the week/ numbers in French. We will also have French on a Wednesday afternoon where we will focus specifically on one topic. We will start by exploring the country France itself.
Literacy
This term we are focusing on sharing and justifying opinions on texts/ stories that we are reading. We are also developing our ability to identify the purpose of a text.
In our daily writing experiences we are learning to identify nouns, proper nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.
Our writing block focus this term is recount. The children will develop recount skills considering themselves and their own 'autobiography's'
Numeracy/ Maths/ CLIC
The Maths topic this term is 2D and 3D shape. This includes identifying properties of 2D and 3D shape, exploring radius and diameters, types of triangles and NETS of 3D shape.
In numeracy (number) this term, we are focusing on patterns and relationships of number.
We will be following the CLIC primary 5 planner term 1.
Health and Wellbeing
This term we are developing our mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing.
Our Bounce Back topics are unit 1 core values and unit 2 people boucning back. Bounce back will be explored through circle time experiences where we will talk, discuss and preform drama as we explore the key themes/ messages.
Science
Topical science this term is focusing on researching and discussing an individual who is making a contribution in our current world. We will focus on Greta Thunberg and climate change.
