P4/5 2024-25
Confidence to Cook
Our Primary 5 participated in their first confidence to cook session this week with Mrs Kidney. They started by making cupcakes in preparation for attending the Macmillan Coffee Morning at Margaret Clyne Court on Friday. Mrs Kidney was very impressed with the teamwork and enthusiasm for the whole process- including the washing up!
RNCI- CCOW Visit
We were very lucky to have a visit from the RNCI Countryside Classroom on Wheels today to support our local topic. We learned lots about the variety of foods produced in our local area and discussed the importance of different types of agriculture in the production of these foods. We were even lucky enough to meet a 1 week old calf from Mackie's farm called Missy!
Big Maths
We are super excited to share some of our numeracy approaches during our open afternoon!
During the session the pupils will have the chance to share some of the characters and terminology from our Big Maths resource.

Outdoor Learning
We loved our first outdoor learning session with Mr Miller. The pupils were super keen to share these pictures on our website. Our session started with songs linked to Maths Week Scotland and we explored patterns using loose parts. After the pupils demonstrated amazing creativity when participating in a play session.

Kincorth Hill Visit
As part of our Local topic we visited Kincorth Hill in partnership with the Aberdeen Ranger Service. During the session they discussed with the pupils what the Countryside Ranger Service do on this hill as well their 24 sites . We also learned about the flora and fauna species found on the hill.
The pupils demonstrated all our our school values and have been invited back for another interesting session on Thursday 31st October.

Visit to Margaret Clyne Court
As part of our Local topic we visited Margaret Clyne Court to find out more about the important building in our community. Whilst we were there we spoke with some of the residents and had a tour of the building to find out how it is designed meet the needs of the residents.

Our Star Writer this week was chosen for always enthusiastically sharing her ideas with others and consistently hitting her targets.
RADS Sessions
P4/5 have now started their weekly RADS sessions which will take place between break and lunch on Tuesdays. We had great fun in our first couple of sessions and some of us even earned our first RADS points for challenging ourselves to go plus one.
P5 Trip- Aberdeen Science Centre
Our P5 pupils visited Aberdeen Science Centre as part and learned more about renewable energy and in particular wind turbines.
This trip linked to our Topic Science focus and one of the Global Goals we have been exploring.
We had a great adventure and have returned enthusiastic to share what we've learned with our friends in P4.

Term 1 Overview
Health and Wellbeing
Our focus will be on mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
This year we will be participating in a RADS sessions with a coach from the Russel Anderson Foundation every Tuesday.
Mrs Forbes will also be teaching PE and French every Wednesday morning.
As part of our local topic we will be participating in Confidence to Cook sessions with Mrs Kidney.
We will also be starting familiarising ourselves with the Upper Stages Daily Mile routine.
Literacy
Writing-
This term we will be focussing on our CYPIC daily writing approach. I am super excited to see the pupils challenge themselves with their new targets and experience success!
Reading-
This term we will be building our independence and confidence using our Reflective Reading approach. Pupils will complete a long read task map in class across the week, which you will find on our Google Classroom. They will also complete a short read task as part of a co-operative group.
Listening and Talking-
To support with our research skills we will be building our understanding of good questioning skills.
Numeracy
Our maths topics this term are 2D and 3D shapes, patterns and relationships.
Maths Week Scotland will be from 23.09.24 - 29.09.24 where the theme is 'Maths Tales!'
We will be also be continuing our Big Maths CLIC sessions. You will find our weekly targets on our website and Google Classroom. The pupils will now complete their weekly tests digitally in class on Fridays.
Topic
For the first 3 weeks of Term 1 our focus is on Caring Citizens. During this topic we will refresh our understanding of our school aims, values, UNCRC, make our class charter and enjoy getting to know our new team.
Our second topic of the year will be Local. This topic will run for the remainder of Term 1 and the first two weeks of Term 2. We will be learning about important places, industries and roles in our local community. We are hoping to get out on a few trips to explore the area and welcome guest speakers to our class.
Science
We will be focussing on Topical Science outcomes this term.
We will be exploring our understanding of trusted sources.
Our P5 pupils will also be attending Aberdeen Science Centre to learn more about how Wind Turbines are used in Aberdeen.
Digital Technology
As part of our Caring Citizens topic we are going to explore digital citzenship. We are going to work towards achieving our Google Internet Legends certificate as a class and participate in Interland lessons.
We will also be familiarising ourselves with the G:Suite resources on our Chromebook as these tools will support us with our learning across the year.
