Ms. Charissa Bass

Freshman Counselor

Mrs. Bass has worked in the educational field for over 15 years and has been a counselor for nearly 10 years. Prior to becoming a high school counselor, she taught elementary and middle school students. Education has always been important in her life and she’s always wanted to help others in their journey to learning and exploration.

Mrs. Bass started her post-secondary education attending Washtenaw Community College, graduating with an Associate’s degree and then transferring to Eastern Michigan University where she received her Bachelors of Science degree in education majoring in Math, with a minor focused in Science. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree Mrs. Bass began teaching at Ypsilanti Public Schools and then moved on to the Willow Run Community School District. While in these districts, she taught all grades K-8, coached the cheer teams, and sponsored many after school activities.

With the support and encouragement of her family and close friends Mrs. Bass went back to EMU to pursue a degree in Counseling. She completed her internships at Henry Ford Elementary in Ypsilanti and Huron High School in Ann Arbor. After graduating with her Master Degree of Arts, Mrs. Bass began working as an at-risk counselor in the Ypsilanti Community Schools District. She was trained in the Restorative Practice and had the opportunity to put that training to use.

Looking to broaden her horizons, Mrs. Bass began working in the Detroit area, at Detroit Edison Public School Academy. While at DEPSA she worked with all grades 9-12 with a focus on 12th grade. Wanting to move closer to home and service the students in her own community, Mrs. Bass decided to come back to the Ann Arbor area and began working as a high school counselor at Skyline in 2018.
