Canvas includes tools you may use to complete and submit assignments or assessments in your classes.

Canvas Assignments are where you will find information about your classwork and see your grades and feedback. Some assignments are completed directly in Canvas, while others may be done on paper or in another app. Even if you complete an assignment on paper, your teacher may use Canvas to share directions, collect your work, or show your grade and comments.
Discussions are a place where you can share your thoughts and respond to your classmates. Your teacher will ask a question or give a prompt, and you will post your answer. You may also be asked to reply to other students. Be sure to follow your teacher’s rules for respectful and thoughtful responses.
Quizzes are used to check your understanding of what you’ve learned. They may include different question types, such as multiple choice, true/false, or short answers. Some quizzes may be timed or only allow one attempt, so read the instructions carefully before you begin.
The Rich Content Editor is the tool you use to type and format your work in Canvas. You can change text size, add bullet points, insert links, images, or videos, and check your spelling. You’ll use the Rich Content Editor when writing text entry assignments, discussion posts, and some quiz questions.
Text Entry assignments are assignments where your teacher asks you to type your answer directly into Canvas using the Rich Content Editor.
To submit:
Select the Start Assignment button in the top right corner.
Type your response into the box.
Click Submit Assignment after you are done entering the text.
On the right side of the screen you will see that the status is now marked Submitted with the date and time listed underneath. You can click Submission Details to see your submission.
Google Assignments link your Canvas assignment to your Google Drive. When your teacher creates a Google Assignment a copy of their document will automatically be created in your Google Drive. You will open the document from Canvas, as you edit the document Google will automatically save your work. When you are done, go back to the Canvas assignment and select Submit to send the document to your teacher.
File Upload assignments are assignments where your teacher asks you to upload a file, such as a document, presentation, image, or video.
To submit your file:
Select the blue, Start Assignment button in the top, right corner.
Click Choose File or select the Google Drive tab to upload your file.
Click Submit Assignment after your file finishes uploading.
On the right side of the screen you will see that the status is now marked Submitted with the date and time listed underneath.
Many different apps can be used with Canvas Assignments. Your teacher may ask you to complete work in apps such as Wixie, Nearpod, Adobe Express, or your online textbook.
When you open the assignment in Canvas, the app may open inside Canvas or in a new tab. Your teacher will give you specific directions when you are using these other tools.
