three sheets of paper
scissors
glue stick
glue gun
string
wood stylus or pencil (optional)
Cut two of your sheets of paper in thirds, horizontally.
The rectangles I am using measure 5" x 2.5" - Yours can be any size but the length should be about twice the width, and all six rectangles should be the same size.
2. Fold one of the rectangles in half along the long edge.
3. Fold a corner in to the center line.
4. Fold the next corner in to the center line.
5. Repeat for all 4 corners
6. Fold the right edge in to the center line.
7. Fold the left edge in to the center line.
8. Repeat steps 2-7 with the other 5 rectangles.
9. Fold each of your sections in half along the center line
10. Nest one folded piece inside a second piece. Make 3 sets of two pieces.
11. Line up the three sets and tie them together in the middle.
12. Cut the excess string. Gently fold the two outer segments in half to crease the paper.
13. Fold the upper layer of one segment back and upwards toward the center
14. Continue in a circle, folding up each petal from the top layer.
15. Continue around in a circle, folding up each petal from the bottom layer.
16. Cut a larger rectangle 2/3 of a page wide. Use a glue stick to coat the top side of your paper.
My rectangle measures about 3x7. Dimensions don't need to be exact but will determine the length and thickness of your stem.
17. Roll the paper diagonally from a corner to make a skinny tube.
Make sure the glue in on the inside! Hold the rolled tube in place for a few seconds so the glue can set.
18. Use scissors to make 3-4 short, evenly spaced cuts in one side of your tube.
19. Fold the cut edges out from the center.
20. Cut a small square from your remaining paper.
21. Fold in half to make a triangle.
22. Fold the triangle in half.
23. Fold in half again.
24. Snip the ends of the triangle to make a symmetrical shape with a small hole in the center.
25. Use a hot glue gun to attach the cut pieces of your stem to the bottom of your flower, over the tied string.
26. Slide the stem of your flower through the hole in the shape you just cut. Attach the paper to the bottom of your flower with hot glue.
27. Use wooden stylus to gently curl the points of each petal outward.
Try some of these options or invent your own ways to make your flower unique!
Add petals- glue them in when you are rolling your stem
Paint an abstract watercolor on your paper before you start
Color the ends of your petals for an ombre effect
Cut each piece from a different color of paper for a rainbow rose
Instead of a stem, try gluing several roses onto a flower crown or wreath
