Zeeland capped off the dual meet season with a victory over Holland. This leaves the boys with a 3-1 record in the conference, 2nd place the OK Green.
Highlights include Jason Rennick's debut on the boards, Justin Michael's 500 Free, Connor Robertson in the 200 IM, and the Medley Relay of Austin Mills, Robertson, Gabe Trevino, and Evan Potter.
It's championship season! Zeeland dives back in next week Friday at the OK Green Championship. There, they look to upset dual meet season champions Holland Christian, and punch some more tickets to the D1 Championship two weeks later.
Zeeland sent 10 swimmers to Eastern Michigan this weekend to compete in the annual MISCA Invite. Despite peak training, and long rides in the car, the boys were able to compete very well. While an exhibition event, had it been scored, the boys would have placed 2nd out of over 80 teams.
Highlighting the weekend was Travis Engelsman's 100 Breast, which is a new state cut, and Brandon Kraai's 100 Back, which is a new personal best and his first time under 1:00.
Wins for Zeeland came from Gabe Trevino in the 50 and 100 Free, and the 400 Free Relay of Trevino, Philip DeJonge, Jonathan Kollen, and Austin Mills.
One more dual meet to go! The boys travel to Holland on Tuesday.

In one of Zeeland's final tune ups leading into the conference championship meet, they boys had a very strong showing at the Hudsonville Invite. While there were certainly plenty of times to celebrate, the team overall showed great technical progress and overall team spirit.
Notable swims include new individual state cuts for Travis Engelsman (200 IM), and Jonathan Kollen (200 Free, 100 Free). Gabe Trevino set two pool records (50 Free, 100 Free). Brandon Kraai qualified for MISCA in the 100 Back. Finally, Jake DesArmo had a tremendous 50 Free. Other highlights include Chris Honsberger's 100 Free, Isaac Inman's 200 & 500 Frees, and Ethan Wolters' 100 Breast.
The boys swim for the dual meet conference championship on Tuesday, when they face Holland Christian on senior night.
Tuesday, January 24, 2017 Results
Zeeland was victorious over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night. While the training is taking its toll on the scoreboard, there were plenty of well fought races and technical accomplishments throughout the night.
Highlighting the evening was Brandon Kraai in the 100 Back, dropping even more time in January. Ben Thomas and Adam Hoeve tag teamed a 1-2 finish in the 100 Free. Hoeve followed that performance with a great split in the 200 Free Relay. Austin Mills and Connor Robertson both came from behind to post the 1-2 in the 200 IM. Philip DeJonge had a solid swim in the 500 Free.
After a stop at Hudsonville on Saturday, Zeeland honors their seniors against a hungry Holland Christian next week Tuesday.

Zeeland kicked off the OK Green dual meet season with a win over Hamilton. The boys stepped up to several new challenges, and found themselves racing in uncomfortable scenarios. Despite the adversity, several stood out. Justin Meyer had a great race in the 200 free, Evan Potter raced hard to accomplish his goal in the 500 free, and Ben Thomas won a well fought 100 fly. Also performing well in the 100 fly was Jacob Pollack, posting a personal best time.
The boys continue the title defense next week against Byron Center.

Zeeland swam past top 10 Rockford on Tuesday night, taking 10 of 12 events. Ben Thomas and Jonathan Kollen got the boys started on the right foot with two great medley anchors. Justin Michael and Isaac Inman each posted a solid 200 Free. Jack O'Neill posted a best time in both the 50 Free and 100 Free. Philip DeJonge posted a tremendous 200 Free anchor. Jon Michael Hoeve dropped even more time in his 400 Free relay leg.
The highlights of the night, however, come from Austin Mills (100 Fly/100 Back) and Connor Robertson (200 IM/100 Breast). Their dual wins came accompanied by unprecedentedly fast times for early January.
Saturday marks the annual Rock Kilgore Invite in Plymouth - a great opportunity to race against adversity!
Thursday, January 5, 2017 Results
Zeeland hosted the Buccaneers and the Eagles for a double dual on Thursday. The home team reigned supreme in both competitions. There were several great swims, lead by Austin Mills and Travis Engelsman in the 500 Free. Ben Thomas had two very strong swims (50 Free/200 Free Relay). Ben Driesenga and Ethan Wolters had another tremendous race, with Driesenga dropping over 4 seconds. Adam Hoeve swam very well on his 400 Free Relay. Isaac Inman and Spencer DeGraaf both posted very solid 100 Frees.
Next up is Rockford. The Rams come to town next week Tuesday.

Zeeland kept a feisty Hudsonville at bay on Tuesday night. While it was clear that the boys were feeling the effects of Christmas Break training, many raced hard and made headlines.
Jon Michael Hoeve had a great double (100 fly/100 back). Cam Wallar performed well on the end of the Medley. Justin Michael and Isaac Inman battled to two strong 200 Frees. Evan Potter had a great 100 Free. Finally, Ben Driesenga and Ethan Wolters both posted season best 100 Breaststrokes.
The boys are back in action again, this time defending the Nat against Grand Haven and Grand Rapids Christian Thursday night.

Zeeland played host to the very fast New Years Invite on Tuesday. The meet was a test of how well the boys could push through Christmas Break fatigue, while honoring those among us who have battled cancer throughout their lives. With that in mind, we were very proud of the work put forth, and how the boys carried themselves for Zeeland.
Highlights in the pool were Connor Robertson securing two individual state cuts (200 IM/100 Breast), Jonathan Kollen (200 Free/100 Free), Austin Mills (100 Free), Ethan Wolters (100 Breast) and Christopher Honsberger (200 Free Relay).
Next up is a return to dual meet season, when the boys host Hudsonville on Tuesday, January 3.

Zeeland fell to Riley Street rivals West Ottawa on Tuesday night. Despite numerous strong swims, the boys came up short against a deep team. Leading the team was Austin Mills with a new state cut in the 100 Fly, Ben Thomas with a tremendous 100 Free, and Jon Michael Hoeve squeaking under 1:00 for the first time this season in the 100 Back. Jonathan Kollen embraced his new found speed on the end of the Medley Relay.

Zeeland successfully defended its title at the Northview Invite on Saturday. Without any divers to represent the team, the swimmers dove into the first event already down 52 points. The boys rose to the challenge, and the coaches are very impressed with their efforts.
On the path to bringing home a 3rd straight trophy, several swimmers swam to record setting performances. The medley relay (Austin Mills, Connor Robertson, Travis Engelsman, Ben Thomas) broke the mark from 2015, Gabe Trevino took down the 100 free, Austin Mills set the standard for the 50 free, and Thomas, Philip DeJonge, Jonathan Kollen and Trevino solidified the win with a record in the 200 free relay.
Other standout performances include Jonathan Kollen (100 Free),Adam Hoeve (100 Free), Jon Michael Hoeve (50 Back) and Jack O'Neill (50/100 Free).
The boys travel down Riley on Tuesday to face Division 1 rivals West Ottawa in a top 6 rematch of last year's state final.

The boys kicked off the dual meet season in victorious fashion. Pushing through the early season training, several athletes were able to post state-qualifying times. Highlights started early with the 200 Medley Relay (Austin Mills, Connor Robertson, Gabe Trevino, Ben Thomas), Philip DeJonge (200 Free, 500 Free), Gabe Trevino (50 Free, 100 Free) and Austin Mills (100 Back).
Zeeland looks to keep the momentum going as they travel to Northview on Saturday to compete in the Northview Sprint Invite.
