The Women's Water Polo season came to an end on Friday night with a 9-3 loss to the Rockford Rams (ranked #3 in the State). The final score was not an indicator to how the team played however.

Sarah Houtman scored the first goal of the tournament on an outside shot before the Rams scored 3 in a row. Rylie Toth netted 2 goals in the second quarter to tie the game at 3 where the game remained for much of the 3rd quarter before the Rams started to pull away.

Brooke Elenbaas once again played a stellar game with a few steals and shots and Morgan Beers had a great game in goal with 9 saves.

"It was a wild ride this season. We learned a lot about ourselves as a team and played a different style of water polo than we have in years. Our seniors Brooke, Taylor, Makenzee and Lindy are going to be missed, but they also left a positive and long lasting imprint on this team." -Coach Dave Vruggink

On the second day of the District 1 Tournament at Rockford High School, the Zeeland Women's Water Polo team qualified as the 4th seed for the Regional Tournament with losses to Hudsonville (20-2) and Jenison (8-7). Zeeland will play District 2 Champion Rockford on Friday at 4:00 PM at East Grand Rapids High School.

Saturday started out with a 20-2 loss to #1 ranked Hudsonville. Senior Co-Captains Brooke Elenbaas and Taylor Hodge scored for the team.

The next game came down to the wire against Jenison, with the team losing 8-7. Brooke Elenbaas and Jenna Schrotenboer each scored twice in the loss.

"We used up a lot of energy getting to day 2 of Districts and I think that wore on us a little bit today. I am extremely happy with how we are playing. In the water, we have started to gel over the past few weeks and it is starting to pay dividends in the water." -Coach Dave Vruggink

The Zeeland Women's Water Polo team qualified for their 10th consecutive Regional Tournament tonight by beating Grandville 10-9 in triple overtime! Brooke Elenbaas scored the game winner on a pass from Katie Agar with 1:29 remaining in the 3rd OT Sudden Death Period.

Grandville took an early 1 goal lead in the first quarter, but Zeeland never trailed until the first OT period. Water Polo plays 2 periods of OT with no goal limits before moving on to Golden Goal rules. After falling behind 9-8 in OT, Jenna Schrotenboer score on a sweet sweep shot from 2m set to tie it back up.

Jenna Schrotenboer led all goal scorers with 7 goals with Madi Duquette adding 2, Emma Nellis scoring from her own goal, and Brooke Elenbaas scoring the game winner. Katie Agar led the team with 2 assists and Rylie Toth was the team leader in steals with 7. In goal, Emma Nellis made 9 saves.

"We controlled the game fairly well, but got a little sloppy at the end. A lot of credit goes to Grandville. Their team fought hard and got back into the mix. Thank goodness that we have Brooke Elenbaas on our team. She kept going and didn't want this to be her final high school water polo game. She kept fighting and was in the right place at the right time...and executed!" -Coach Dave Vruggink
