The Zeeland Women's Water Polo team defeated East Kentwood by a score of 8-5. The Falcons led 3-2 at the half, but a strong 3rd quarter backed by 5 goals helped the Dux/Chix pull ahead for good.

Rylie Toth overloaded the stat sheet Russell Westbrook style with 1 goal, 5 assists, 6 steals, and 4 field blocks. Jenna Schrotenboer led the team in scoring with 3 goals. Brooke Elenbaas chipped in 2 goals and had 3 assists. Madi Duquette had a career high 5 steals to go along with a goal.

"We didn't shoot the ball very well in the first half. We were taking good shots, but just couldn't put the ball on the cage. The second half we came out on fire, sparked by some good outside shooting from Rylie Toth, Brooke Elenbaas and Madi Duquette." -Coach Dave Vruggink

The JV girls water polo team defeated East Kentwood by a score of 14-2 Thursday night. The Zeeland Women's Varsity Water Polo team fell to Riley Rival West Ottawa 16-7. The team was leading after the first period, but couldn't hold off the hot shooting Panthers down the stretch. The team stayed within 3 goals most of the way before trying to push their own offense in the 4th quarter which led to 5 unanswered goals by West Ottawa.

Jenna Schrotenboer led the team with 4 goals with Katie Agar, Rylie Toth and Kenzee Matelski each adding 1. Toth also filled the score sheet with 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 field blocks. Emma Nellis made 7 saves in goal.

"We started out playing great defense, but didn't react fast enough once West Ottawa figured out how to beat it. I thought we played very well and learned a lot about ourselves tonight. Katie Agar and Madi Duquette have really stepped up their game as of late." -Coach Dave Vruggink

The JV girls water polo team defeated the Panthers of West Ottawa, 11-1. It was a balanced attack from the Chix and Dux with seven different goal scorers including Ally Vera and Hailey Lujan. Of the eleven goals, eight were assisted. Kayla Trevino and Morgan Beers each had two assists. Morgan also posted an impressive ninety-two percent save percentage with twelve saves. The team's next game is this Thursday versus East Kentwood.

Friday & Saturday, April 14-15, 2017
The Zeeland Women's Water Polo team traveled to Jenison to participate in the 2 in 1 Tournament and took second place out of 8 teams. The team started the weekend by defeating Grand Haven 11-5 and then followed that victory up with wins over East Kentwood (6-3) and Grandville (5-3). The win streak came to an end in the Championship game with a loss to Illinois' Naperville Central (ranked #3 in Illinois) by a score of 13-1.

Sarah Houtman and Jenna Schrotenboer led the team with 7 goals each. Rylie Toth was the team leader in both assists (7) and steals (15) and Emma Nellis made 29 saves in goal.

"Our movement and communication really improved over the weekend. We had 6 different goal scorers, but more importantly, we were looking to score, not just throw the ball towards the net. We really improved a lot over the weekend and I am hoping that we carry it over to our games this coming week." Coach Dave Vruggink

The Zeeland JV water polo team placed third this past weekend at the Jenison’s JV/Varsity tournament. After losing a close game against Hudsonville, 8-7, the team had wins against East Kentwood, Grandville, and Forest Hills. It was a great weekend for Claire Meeuwsen who shot an impressive 10-15 while also making six assists. Peyton Elenbaas played great defense earning fifteen steals. Morgan Beers also set a season high in saves with fourteen against Hudsonville. The team’s next game is against West Ottawa this Tuesday at 7:00 pm (varsity first).
