The varsity water polo team defeated the Eagles of Hudsonville on Wednesday night in an overtime thriller, 7-6. After going down 4-2 in the first half, Hudsonville fought their way back into the game and were able to tie the game midway through the fourth quarter. Late in the fourth quarter, Brendan Pinner forced a ball-under on a countering Hudsonville player and that play brought the game to overtime.

Austin Mills scored both of the goals in the regulation overtime periods for Zeeland. Again Hudsonville fought back and with a last second shot during a six-on-five advantage were able to force a final, sudden-victory overtime period. The first possession for the Eagles resulted in another man-up opportunity. However, this time Zeeland played strong defense and Tucker DeGraaf forced a shot wide. That defense led to a countering opportunity for Philip DeJonge who was able to earn an exclusion. He then found Jon Michael Hoeve on the opposite side of the cage who caught the ball cleanly and buried it in the back of the net for the game winner.

The team had contributors on both ends of the pool. In addition to Jon Michael's and Austin's goals, Jonathan Kollen (2), Philip DeJonge, and Tucker DeGraaf each scored from Zeeland. Philip led the team in steals with four while six other players had at least two steals including Adam Hoeve and Brandon Kraai. Brandon also had two field blocks. When set, the defense did a good job generating steals with a team total thirteen. Four players had at least two steals including Jon Hoeve, Adam Hoeve, and Austin Mills. Philip DeJonge had four steals and led the teams counter attack all night which helped facilitate the team's offense.
