OSU regatta is coming up soon... October 16 and 17. Right now signed up
to go we have Sara Suva, Sean Kelly, and maybe Kathy Duckworth. We need
at least one more person in order to be able to participate - but the
more the better! Let me know if you can go by practice on Friday. Sara,
Sean, and Kathy are our top sailors so even if you don't know that much
about sailing (new members:) you will be in good hands. (How do you like
that confidence Sara, Sean, and Kathy!! haha :)
We are thinking about hosting an ODNR Motor Boat Liscence
Class at UA this semester, it would likely either be two evenings or
one full day on the weekend. In Ohio you are not allowed to operate a
motor boat with more than 10hp without taking this course (if you were
born after... 1982 I think was the cut off...). If this is something you
would be interested in let me know and I will set it up. It would
likely happen sometime in November after the sailing season is over.
We will be sending out invoices soon for Fall 2010 dues.
We have permission to do capsize tests in the ONAT also
this semester, probably, again, this will be an event in November. So,
if you missed our earlier capsize tests on the lake, or if you want more
practice, or if you want to just go for a swim and have fun then this
will be a good event. I'll let everyone know once its scheduled.
I have a cool tee-shirt design! Let me know if you like it
(or really just let me know if you hate it). On the front it says SCUA
in nautical flags. It is the attached document. I'll let eveyone know
how much they will cost once I get a quote.
We're one step closer to having a new FJ sailboat! The
seller sent the PO to Club Sports, they are going to write us a check,
and then we will take it to the seller and pick up the boat. Next Spring
we can really get into some good racing with two boats.
As a fundraiser the Sailing Club would like to sell Sail
Bags/Purses. We'll make them ourselves, with some help from our coach,
Doug. If you have no idea what I am talking about here is a link to
something that would look similar to what we're making. http://www.green-talk.com/2008/05/25/ella-vickers-recycles-discard-sails-into-fashionable-bags/ We could possibly sell them at the Chicago boat show Strictly Sail... which leads me to my next topic...
The MCSA annual meeting will be January 29 in Chicago, on
the Navy Pier, and coinsides with the event Strictly Sail. Mark your
calendars and start thinking about if you would like to go, we will be
planning for this trip sooner than you think! :)
There is a possibility of traveling to Charlotte Harbor
Yacht Club in Florida over Spring Break to get some winter warm weather
sailing in! I would like a head's up if this is something you might be
interested in so we can have some planning meetings to figure out the
We will be having an end of the semester dinner in November, if you would like to be on the planning committee let me know.
Also, we will probably have a movie night either at the end
of this semester or the beginning of the Spring semester, so be
excited!! The movie is about a bunch of college students who raced a
boat... really far... I forget where to and where from though... you'll
have to come to movie night to find out! :)
