Welcome to the York University Mountaineering Club website. The club is primarily a rock climbing (trad and sport) and bouldering club, but members also do more general mountaineering within the British Isles and Europe. We're a very active club, running outdoor trips every Sunday to crags in the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District during term time (weather permitting) and regular bouldering sessions at the Red Goat Climbing Centre on Monday and Friday evenings from 5pm till late which are perfect to learn the basics. We also try to get to the big wall at Energise in Acomb each Wednesday where members can learn and practise top-roping and lead sport climbing. During the Easter break YUMC runs a week's climbing trip abroad and past locations have included Spain, Slovenia, France and Italy and these are great opportunities to leave our damp and cloudy Island to experience some of Europe's best climbing spots and soak up some sun before the summer exams! Our members can also take part in a winter skills course in the Cairngorms each year, as well as mountain-specific first aid training during the summer term.

If you are interested in joining then please come and find us at the Freshers Fair where we will have a mobile climbing tower for you to play on! Alternatively you can contact us by email at mountaineering@yusu.org. Everyone is welcome to join YUMC! It doesn't matter if you've never climbed before, or if you're a regular, and one thing we can guarantee is that you'll have a great time and meet some really friendly characters.
