With the help of the Greater Los Angeles Federal Executive Board, the Los Angeles Chapter was launched and has grown to over 1,300 strong so far. In addition to being an avenue for positive public service and good works, we provide opportunities for our board and members to increase their proficiency in Leadership through projects and events

Upcoming Events

2017 Holiday Luncheon: Details to follow. YGL- LAour chapter will be preparing for an annual luncheon which YGL-LA will be participating in this year. We have raised money for these charities in the past and want to encourage giving this upcoming Holiday season.

YGL-LA as tool to enter Leadership

Like Mike, our other board members may use the public service they provide YGL-LA as leadership experience required for the executive core qualifications. If you attended the Execitve Women in motion conference you learned how to do this. Another conference specifically created with YGL-LA members who are grades GS 11 to 13 is coming up.

You will hear directly from a leader from Senior Executive Association (SEA) and hear how SEA is working with OMB, OPM and others to support agencies as they design restructuring plans. YGL-LA members will also have an opportunity to discuss critical governmental issues in a changing Federal landscape, Executive Core Qualifications, and visualizing a career in the Senior Executive Service. We will also be bringing the SEA mentoring program out west for active members  with details on that to follow.

Speaker Series

We capitalized on our growing membership and success with the 2015 Speaker Series in downtown Los Angeles in July. The theme of the event was transitioning from an expert to a manager. The featured speaker was Ed Laughlin, Assistant Director of the Government Accountability Office, who shared his own experiences about continuing to be both an expert and manager. YGL LA also utilized the event to raise funds and bring awareness to the 2015 Special Olympics.

Last year we shared the experience of one of our board members with all YGL-LA members who attended the Next Generation of Government Training Summit (NextGen) in Washington, DC. NextGen 2015 was inspirational and well-organized. Co-hosted by GovLoop and Young Government Leaders, the event aimed to educate, inspire, and train government employees who are of Generation X and Y. The ideas shared during the event were relevant to anyone who works in government and needed some reinvigoration in mind and spirit. The keynote speakers, pitched innovative ideas and discussed topics ranging from “the six essential skills to be an entrepreneur” to the power of sticky notes and challenging the traditional ways of running meetings. NextGen in DC can be a valuable tool in any young gov’s tool box. Check out NextGen 2016 for more.
