What is Go Spike?
Go Spike is a campaign to get more people playing volleyball, one of the world’s most popular sports.
Go Spike is designed to show off some of volleyball’s important values; the sport is adaptable, social, fresh and invigorating - a great way to exercise and have fun. Over half a billion people play volleyball worldwide, so this is England’s chance to catch up and Go Spike!
Come and play volleyball, have fun, make friends and learn new skills. Rediscover sporting abilities and get active. Come and have a go! The sessions cater for all abilities and all ages from 14+.
On Friday evenings, during school term time, there is a Go Spike session at Huntington School. Come along and give it a go!
In the summer, from May - August, we play outside on Thursdays, at the southern end of Rowntree Park, by Millennium Bridge. There will be nets up all evening for anyone to come and have a go. For experienced players, there are usually competitive matches with players from our local and national league teams.
For younger players under 14, there is a Junior session 6.00-7.00 pm on Tuesday, at Millthorpe School (term time only). In the summer there is a junior outdoor session in Rowntree Park, on Thursday 6.30-8.00 pm.
York Volleyball Club also works with York Council to promote participation in sport:
Look out for more Go Spike sessions, including the Just 30 Fair in Rowntree Park (21 September 2013).
