Welcome all patrons to the "S.R.A. Library Learning Commons"

This website has been created to provide learners with a web space filled with tools to support learners as they work to increase what they know, and acquire the learning skills they need, to go through the learning process effectively with efficiency.  It is hoped that using the tools available here, learners come away from the learning process, with a more open-minded viewpoint that is broad in its perspective, an increased knowledge base, as well as an enlarged repertoire of skills from all domains, that the learner can then apply to a wide variety of new learning opportunities.

"The library's mission is not about books but about information." - James Mitchell

“School libraries provide equitable physical and intellectual access to the resources and tools required for learning in a warm, stimulating, and safe environment. School librarians collaborate with others to provide instruction, learning strategies, and practice in using the essential learning skills needed in the 21st century.”
~American Association of School Librarians. 2007. Standards for the 21st-Century Learner. Chicago: ALA.

Practice in the S.R.A. Library Learning Commons is informed by the changing vision of the library, from a Resource Centre to a Library Learning Commons, which better represents the school library's need to respond to the 21st century, which is proving to be an era of complex change.  Ways a school library Resource Centre may undergo this evolution and emerge a school Library Learning Commons, is described in the standards of practice for the Canadian school Library Learning Commons.
