Online Workshops

Maine Parent Federation, in collaboration with the Maine Department of Education, Special Services, recently developed three workshops for parents.  These workshops focus on Literacy, Math, and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and will help parents understand best practices.

If you are a skier, I bet your excitement is mounting!!  Fall is here…the first frost is coming…and soon……the white stuff will fall!

Did you know that Spurwink has a ski program at Sugarloaf for children with autism?  We are entering our 6th season, and looking for volunteers!

What do volunteers do?  You provide 1:1 support for a child with autism who is enrolled in Sugarloaf ski school lessons.

What is the obligation? You are asked to commit to one weekend (more if you’d like) – a Saturday and a Sunday (from 9:30-12 and 12:30-3). The program begins January 7 and ends March 26(weekend of Feb 18 excluded).

What are the perks?  1) You open the door to possibilities for a child with autism;  2) You receive a FREE ski voucher ($95 value) to use any other time;  3) You can stay at Sugarloaf in the brand new Adaptive Outdoor Education center for free, both Friday and Saturday night!

What are the qualifications?  To be a good skier, and to have experience with and understanding of autism

What else?  We are looking for 2 people every weekend, so if you have a qualified buddy, team up!!  You do not have to be a Spurwink employee to volunteer.  Please share this information with others.
