Welcome to the Home Page for the 21st Century Community Learning Center MAGIC+ Afterschool Program!
MAGIC (Making Academic Gains in Children) is a federally funded grant program that provides academic and social enrichment activities that are designed to reinforce and complement the student's regular school day. The MAGIC Program provides a range of high-quality services to support student learning and development. These services include, but are not limited the following: tutoring, mentoring, homework assistance, academic enrichment (such as hands-on science and technology programs) community service opportunities, music, art, sports, and cultural activities. The MAGIC program also provides a safe environment for students during non-school hours.
The MAGIC Program currently operates at the following schools in Yancey County: Bald Creek Elementary, Bee Log Elementary, Burnsville Elementary, Clearmont Elementary, Micaville Elementary, South Toe Elementary, Cane River Middle and East Yancey Middle.
For the 2013-2014 school year, MAGIC served more than 370 Yancey County students. From the teacher survey results obtained, 73% of students demonstrating a need experienced significant to moderate improvement in their homework, 49% of students demonstrating a need experienced a significant to moderate improvement in their behavior, and 74% of students demonstrating a need experienced a significant to moderate improvement in their overall academic performance.
