Report of the Curriculum Rebuild Committee

“The guiding principles for renewing the curriculum will guide the process of curricular reform, set expectations for educators and students, and inform decisions about curriculum design and structure.”
—Report of the Strategic Planning Committee for Medical Education, June 2010

The Report of the Strategic Plan for Medical Education recommended that the school "rebuild the curriculum from the ground up."

The first step in this process was to design the new curricular structure, which was completed in fall of 2011. The Report of the Curriculum Design Committee (CDC) presents the work of the Curriculum Design Committee (CDC).

The next step in creating this new curriculum will be to develop specific content informed by the eight Overarching Goals of the Curriculum.  This process is overseen by the Curriculum Steering Committee. Each area of the curriculum  has a Director appointed to oversee the building of curriculum for that component. The Component Directors meet weekly to communicate and coordinate their efforts. Each Component is represented in the tabs above. Visit their section for an update on the progress of their committee. There is also a Discussion Forum where you can offer your ideas or comments about the new curriculum.

  • Commitment to teaching the basic sciences relevant to medicine during the clinical clerkships.
  • Flexibility that includes two free afternoons a week during the first year and a half, a free summer following the first year, an open rotation during the clerkship year and a free year and a half period beginning in January of Year 3.
