Welcome!  We invite you to become a member in the Yadkin Valley Literacy Association (YVLA).   Our mission is to improve literacy at all levels within the Yadkin Valley region of the state of North Carolina.  Any community members that are interested in improving literacy in our area are welcome to attend meetings and join YVLA!

YVLA offers the opportunity for a $100 YVLA Teacher Grant for the 2019-2020 school year.  Applicant must be an active YVLA member and explain how he/she will utilize the $100 to promote literacy in his/her classroom.  All applications are due by November 8, 2018 to Mary Anne Allen.  Applications can be submitted electronically to mary.allen@yadkin.k12.nc.us or hard copy sent to Mary Anne Allen at Yadkinville Elementary via courier.  The grant recipient will be selected by the YVLA board of officers.  The winner will be announced at the November 15, 2018 YVLA meeting.  Click on this link to access the grant: YVLA Teacher Grant

Young Author's Writing Contest:
This year, the Young Authors Project is all about what lifts us up.  The theme this year is positive and inspirational.  We are encouraged to examine what we love and draw strength from.

ALL teachers in the county may submit one entry per class.

This is an opportunity for students to become published authors.  All participants will receive a certificate of recognition.  Winners for each age category will receive a trophy, gift card and receive recognition at the YVLA Young Authors' Celebration on April 8.  Local winners will compete at the state level and winners will be recognized at the North Carolina Reading Association's conference in the spring.

Please see the attached flyer for the theme, guidelines and formatting specifications.  The participation release form is also attached.
Print only pages 1 and 5.

We can't wait to read your students' amazing submissions!
