Mnichovská umělkyně, tvořící v době, kdy „jsou ženy údajně na pokraji rovnoprávnosti a patriarchát se hroutí“, ve své tvorbě zkoumá řadu znepokojivých a mnohým i nepříjemných otázek. Přesto není nic lidštějšího než se ptát… Výstava Nourished („vyživený“) je něžně poetická i drsně naturalistická. Tematicky cílí na zrod života; na strukturu a materiální podstatu životodárných tekutin, na placentu jako dosud nezprofanovaný symbol života v kontrapunkci k pozvolné smrti rozkládajících se tkání. Ač se může práce s placentou, mateřským mlékem nebo tematizace chirurgického porodu jevit na první pohled jako „čistě ženské téma“, Mariella Kerscher se s až sterilním vědeckým odstupem snaží o opuštění perspektivy ženského těla jako nositele života ve prospěch ultimátních otázek zásadních pro všechny živé bytosti, bez ohledu na gender: Kde je začátek a kde konec?

Jak vypadá orgán, který byl původně umístěn v lidském těle? Jak se chovají esenciální tekutiny, které nás vyživují? Pupečníková krev, pryskyřice, med, voda, mateřské mléko, slaná voda z oceánu, sépiový inkoust…? Po narození jsme závislí, přímo i nepřímo, na celé řadě vyživujících tekutin. Shromážděné životodárné kapaliny, s nimiž Mariella Kerscher pracuje na výstavách pro Vitrínu Denisku a Galerii XY v centru Olomouce, pocházejí z přírody, od lidí i zvířat. Jejich organické struktury lze zachovat jen přibližně, jejich složky se s časem a dopadajícím slunečním zářením dále pomalu mění. V různých sériích umělkyně testuje rozličná složení těchto kapalin, které zkoumá na sklíčkách pod mikroskopem a dále s nimi autorsky pracuje.

Odpověď na otázky po původu a porozumění smrtelnosti pak rozprostírá prostřednictvím maleb, kreseb, videí, 3D objektů a soch i naturalistických objektů povýšených na umělecká díla par excellence.

Mariella Kerscher (*1991) ve své tvorbě zobrazuje mnohdy tabuizované materie přirozené pomíjivosti. Kromě toho, že pracuje se symboly kolektivní paměti, jako jsou vadnoucí květiny, chátrající domy a mísící se vody, se zaměřuje především na dosud nezprofanované atributy zrození a smrti. Placenta, různé životodárné tekutiny, srdce aj. sbírá, pitvá a pod mikroskopem zkoumá organické prvky, aby je skrze svá díla uchovala a zpřístupnila. V sériích kombinuje a replikuje jejich fragmenty, vytváří ornamentální struktury a zpřítomňuje tak nikdy nekončící cyklus: růst, mutace, smrt, růst.

Mariella Kerscher v roce 2016 absolvovala Akademii výtvarných umění v Mnichově. Zatím vystavovala především v Německu a v Rakousku, její díla byla prezentována např. v Galerie Probst v Berlíně, Galerie der Künstler:inner v Mnichově, xpon-art gallery v Hamburgu nebo na veletrhu Parallel Vienna. Těšila se také řadě stipendijních podpor (města Augsburg a Mnichov, Neustart Kultur of Stiftung Kunstfonds, Werksviertel-Mitte ad.).

Munich-based artist Mariella Kerscher creates art at a time when “women are on the brink of equality and patriarchy is crumbling,” through her art she explores many disturbing and unsettling questions. Yet there is nothing more human than to ask... The exhibition Nourished is both tenderly poetic and harshly naturalistic. The theme of the exhibition focuses on the birth of life; on the structure and material nature of life-giving fluids, on the placenta as a symbol of life that has not yet been foreshadowed, in counterpoint to the gradual death of decaying tissues.   

Although working with the placenta, breast milk and the thematisation of surgical childbirth may seem at first glance to be a "purely feminine topic", Mariella Kerscher, keeping an almost sterile scientific distance, tries to abandon the perspective of the female body as the bearer of life in favour of the ultimate questions fundamental to all living beings, regardless of gender: where is the beginning and where is the end?

What does an organ that was originally inside a human body look like? How do essential fluids that nourish us behave? Placental blood, resin, honey, water, breast milk, ocean salt water, sepia ink…? At birth, we are dependent both directly and indirectly on many nourishing fluids. The collected “essential fluids” that Mariella Kerscher uses for the exhibitions in Vitrína Deniska and XY Gallery in the heart of Olomouc come from nature and from humans and animals. The organic structure of the fluids can be preserved only partially, as it slowly decays due to exposure to the sun and time. In various series of her work the artist tests different compositions of these fluids, which she examines on slides under a microscope and continues to work with in different ways.

The answer to the questions of the origin and understanding of mortality is then spread through paintings, drawings, videos, 3D objects and sculptures as well as naturalistic objects elevated to works of art par excellence.

In her work, Mariella Kerscher (1991) depicts the often taboo subjects of natural transience. Although she works with the symbols of collective memory such as wilted flowers, derelict buildings and mingling waters, she focuses primarily on the as yet untapped attributes of birth and death. She collects placenta, various life-giving fluids, hearts, etc. to later dissect  and examine their organic elements under a microscope - in order to preserve and make them accessible through her works. She combines and replicates their fragments in series, creating ornamental structures and thus presenting a never-ending cycle: growth, mutation, death, growth.

Mariella Kerscher graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 2016. She has exhibited mainly in Germany and Austria, her works have been presented at Galerie Probst in Berlin, Galerie der Künstler:inner in Munich, xpon-art gallery in Hamburg, in Parallel Vienna and other institutions. She has also received many scholarship grants (cities of Augsburg and Munich, Neustart Kultur of Stiftung Kunstfonds, Werksviertel-Mitte, etc.).
