Parental Monitoring

Children have more access than ever to social media via their smartphones. Many parents are unaware of what their child is doing online or how to determine what they are doing. “The digital world is an evolving landscape that parents have to learn to navigate,” says Kathleen Clarke-Pearson, M.D., an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill and coauthor of a clinical report published by the American Academy of Pediatrics to raise awareness of the sites that kids are visiting and how they work.

The AAP suggests that parents Immerse themselves in the technology so they know how to create a profile, ‘friend’ their child, and be a part of his or her online life. However many parents may not be comfortable with using various social media because they do not understand it.  That is where we come in.

Xander Business Group offers social media monitoring or we can perform a simple online risk assessment of your child's internet presence.  Children (and many adults) do not have a social filter when posting online and do not realize the size of their audience outside of their friend network.  As part of our profile service, we look for content that is inappropriate or that may put your child's safety at risk such as posting of personal  identifiers.  Ask.fm is one such site that much information can be gleaned by individuals posting anonymous questions which the account holder answers.

The internet never forgets and therefore it is more important for parents to take a proactive role in protecting their child's safety as well as online reputation.
