About the Wyoming Conference Walk to Emmaus

We are one of many communities of Christians who sponsor Emmaus Walks. Chrysalis Flights are still a future vision we hope to reclaim. We are near the geographic region of the former Wyoming Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. We have people from many different denominations who have attended Walks or Flights. Although we are influenced by Wesleyan traditions, we seek to focus on those aspects of Christianity that mainstream Christians share in common.

It might seem confusing, but we are not located in the State of Wyoming. Our name derives from the Wyoming River Valley located in northeast Pennsylvania. This was the historical location of the beginnings of the former Wyoming Annual Conference. We are no longer one conference, but we continue to come together as one expression of the Body of Christ to offer the Walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis in our regions of the central southern tier of New York and northeastern Pennsylvania.

The former Wyoming Conference is now divided and merged with two larger conferences. They are the Upper New York Annual Conference to the north and the Susquehanna Annual Conference to the south.

Those who would like to attend should not be bound by any geographic factors other than that of convenience. Currently our Walks are held at St. Gabriel's Retreat Center near Clarks Summit, PA just north of Scranton, PA. Click the Locations link to see a map of this location.

John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, once wrote, “I continue to dream and pray about a revival of holiness in our day that moves forth in mission and creates authentic community in which each person can be unleashed through the empowerment of the Spirit to fulfill God’s creational intentions.”

We continue to strive toward John Wesley's vision even today.
