Training Information

Basic Training Requirements, Child Care Licensing Rules, Chapter 4, Section 9:
  • Pre-Service Orientation: The applicant, provider, and new staff shall complete the pre-service orientation training which shall include, but not be limited to:
    • Safety and health of children
    • Fire Safety
    • Sanitation procedures
    • Medication administration
    • Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
    • Safe sleep practices
    • Blood borne pathogens
    • Recognition and reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect
    • Shaken Baby Syndrome
    • Nutrition
    • Transportation of children
  • To obtain the above training for free; please contact your Child Care Licenser.

  • First Aid and CPR:  All staff shall have Infant Child CPR and First Aid training and certification shall be kept current. Please contact your Child Care Licenser for a list of available trainers in your area.
  • Facility Staff Orientation: shall include all staff policies, procedures, and child care licensing rules.
  • Staff Pre-Service Training and Facility Orientation: All staff must complete the pre-service training and facility staff orientation prior to assuming responsibility for unsupervised, direct care of children or within 3 months of the staff's start date.
  • Any person engaged in child care 24 hours or more per month, providing direct care for children, and counted in staff:child ratios shall complete a minimum of 16 training credits annually.  Directors are required to meet all licensing rule training requirements.
Additional Training Requirements:
First year training credit requirements: 16 training credits total:
  • Eight (8) credits of training in Early Learning Guidelines and Early Learning Foundations. (webpage coming soon).
  • Eight (8) elective training credits in the area of early learning, early childhood, and/or child development.
Subsequent licensing years: 16 training credits total:
  • Eight (8) core credits of total training as stated in Chapter 4, Section 9 (i).
  • Eight (8) elective training credits in the area of early learning, early childhood, and/or child development.
Required Specialized Training:
Infant Toddler Director Credential is required when more than four (4) infants are present in the facility at one time.

Infant training: 
  • When four (4) or more infants are present, at least one (1) staff person working directly with infants or toddlers shall have a minimum of eight (8) training credits of specialized training in the care of infants or toddlers every two (2) years; and
  • All other staff caring for infants or toddlers shall complete a minimum of four (4) training credits, every two (2) years in specialized infant or toddler training as part of their training requirements.
