Digestion and pH

Digestion of food depends on enzymes. The function of enzymes depends on the pH of the reaction environment. The pH and time that it takes for foods to undergo mechanical and chemical digestion varies depending on the type of molecules. Digestion begins in the mouth with chewing and saliva. Digestion ends in the small intestine. Waste is processed in the large intestine. Bacteria in the large intestine produce vitamins.
