After School Clubs

The PTO supports After School Clubs throughout the school year.
This is an enrichment program that brings community members in to share their hobby or expertise.  If you have a hobby or passion that you would like to share with middle school students please contact Carrie Dessureau at dessureauc@yahoo.com.
Typically sessions run 4-6 weeks.  In the past we have had the following clubs:
  • fencing
  • Lego Robotics
  • knitting
  • book clubs
  • woodworking
  • photography
  • scrapbooking
Currently scheduled clubs for 2015-2016 school year:

Lego Robotics 2015-16
These classes are led by Mike Maloney.
Please submit requests for financial assistance to Tom Drake, Principal of CBMS

Lego Robotics 2:  Lego Mindstorms NXT Robot Beginners 2 Class – With Challenges  March/April 2016
Tues March 15, 22, 29, April 5 and Monday April 11 from 2:40-4:15 in the Dream/Quest project room.
Cost is $75.  Checks should be made payable to Mike Maloney.  Payment is expected by the first class.

This is level 2 beginners’ class. You will review skills learned in level 1 beginner class and then take it to the next level with both building and programming challenges. You will learn to use sensors and add loop and switch instructions, possibly adding a third motor. You will build robots to meet the constraints presented in a variety of challenges based on your skill level. There will be instructions followed by hands on training activities leading to challenges to put what is learned into practice.

Working in pairs, students will apply the engineering process to learn about planning, designing, building, programming, testing, problem solving and team work. This is a class where you will work hard and have fun learning.

Who should attend:  Students in grades 5-8 who previously completed the first beginner’s class or are already familiar with the Lego Mindstorms program to control robots to drive forward, backwards and make controlled turns. Students must possess a desire to learn about building robots, programming and working together with other students to solve problems. This is not a class for a student that just wants to “fool around” or just “play with Legos”.
