Abacus Math

Abacus students have all begun to work and progress in their worksheet packets.  Abacus works both sides of the brain relating creativity to calculations.  In part of each class we do creative exercises as well.  For example we work on complex geometric drawings, using colored pencils and markers to show each part in detail.  We also work on some pretty challenging dot to dot's.  HSC students have proven to be very creative and they enjoy the hands-on that working an abacus brings.

Back to School 2015/16 Month of August:

Welcome to Abacus Math!  We are just getting introduced to the Soroban abacus.

We've talked about the beam that divides top and bottom into Heaven beads and Earth beads.  We are using the far right row of bead as the units (1's) and then the 2nd row of beads from the right is the tens and to the left of that is the 100's place.  Some students were able to start their worksheets this past week and some are ready to start this coming week.
In the picture below the students are doing a brain exercise that we will start class with each week. It's fun and I'm sure they would love to tell you all about it.
I am very excited to be working with the abacus math and I look forward to making it a positive experience for your child.
