Music (MUSC) Mission Statement


The Music Department at West Virginia University Parkersburg provides courses to support the college’s general education program (Music Appreciation), courses necessary for students who plan to transfer and earn a bachelor’s degree in music or music education (Music Theory Sequence and Applied Music), and provides opportunities for student performance (College Chorale, Musical Theater, individual music instruction).

Music (MUSC) Student Learning Outcomes

     1. Students will develop a specialized vocabulary appropriate for                   speaking or writing about music.

     2. Students will develop listening skills so they may distinguish                     among significant forms, styles, and genres.

     3. Students will understand the significance of music within                            historical and cultural contexts

     4. Students will acquire writing and aural skills through the music                theory sequence to facilitate musical maturity.

     5. Students will experience music in live performance in the local                 community.
