8th Grade Science

8th Grade Science

8th grade science is a year long course that aligns to the Next Generation Science Standards. In this class, students will use inquiry-based learning in labs, activities, and projects. Students will learn about the scientific method, where they participate in scientific investigations by creating hypotheses, identifying variables, writing procedures, analyzing data, and then writing a conclusion. Students will learn about matter and its interactions by investigating how atomic and molecular interactions explain the properties of matter that we see and feel. Students will then move to forces and motion, where they will be able to explain the motion of objects and apply ideas about gravitational, electrical, and magnetic forces. We will also learn about energy, the conservation of energy, energy transfers, the relationship between energy and forces, and energy in chemical reactions. Finally, waves and their applications in technologies for information transfer will be studied, where students will learn about the characteristic properties of waves and how they are used.
