posted Aug 18, 2018, 8:02 AM by wvh admin   [ updated Sep 17, 2018, 3:17 AM ]

Multi award-winning folk duo Ninebarrow is performing at Woodford Village Hall on:

Saturday 6th October 1918 at 7:45pm (doors open 7:15, bar available)

Tickets are £10.

Ninebarrow are a multi-award-winning folk duo, who are impressing audiences across the country with their innovative and captivating take on the folk tradition. Described by Mark Radcliffe as sounding ‘like two halves of one voice’ and by Kate Rusby as ‘absolutely amazing’, Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere combine breath taking vocal harmonies and melodies, delivering original songs that are inspired and rooted in the landscape and history of the British Isles. As well as crafting unique and engaging original material, Ninebarrow also take a wide-range of traditional folk songs and rework them in their own, distinctive way.

In 2017, the duo were nominated at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in the ’Horizon’ category for ‘Best Emerging Artist’. One of the highest accolades in their genre, it was made even more exceptional because it was only a few months prior to this that Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere relinquished their jobs as a teacher and GP in favour of a full-time music career.

26/10/16 Woodford Valley Community Emergency Plan Working Group. Open and Training Day

posted Oct 17, 2016, 10:12 AM by Rob Macdonald

On Saturday 22nd October we will be holding a combined open and training day at the village hall in conjunction with Serve On and with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Service.  Between 10am and 1pm.  There will be a fire engine on the playing field opposite the hall together with a display of some of the emergency equipment that will shortly be available to the community thanks to the generous grant we have obtained from Scottish & Southern Electricity.  There will also be a couple of training rigs where you can practice flood proofing your house.  Meanwhile, in the hall there will be displays and explanations of Serve On's emergency assistance capabilities, the Community Emergency Plan and ways you can help yourselves and others in an emergency.

Between 2pm and 4pm the fire engine will have returned to its duties, but you are still welcome to come along and watch or join in as, with the assistance of Serve On, we practice/make fools of ourselves with the equipment and the training rigs.

If your children would like to climb on a fire engine and you would like to learn more about what resources are available and how the community can work together in an emergency, please join us. (we are sure the fireman won't mind if you climb on the fire engine too!)

Whit Stillman directs to perfection this witty period comedy, extracting all the satire and social observation from Jane Austen's 'Lady Susan' to create a delightful and genuinely funny film. Kate Beckinsale is outstanding as the seductive and manipulative Lady Susan.

Apple / Cider Pressing - Rosie Returns

Last year's cider pressing day at Woodford Village Hall was well-attended, great fun and very productive.

This year, Pete Turner is returning to Woodford on Saturday October 15th at 12 noon with his trusty cider press Rosie. Combined with the generous loan of the Snell's marvellous scratter we are set for a repeat performance this year - just add apples!

So please make a note to come along with your eating apples (no cookers please) - the more the merrier. - to help out and enjoy a glass of last year's vintage. Thanks also to the Village Hall and the Gardening Club for supporting this event.
