Ninebarrow visit Woodford Village Hall a second time

posted Aug 18, 2018, 7:59 AM by wvh admin   [ updated Aug 29, 2018, 12:32 PM ]

Multi award-winning folk duo Ninebarrow is performing at Woodford Village Hall on:

Saturday 6th October 1918 at 7:45pm (doors open 7:15, bar available)

Tickets are £10.

Ninebarrow are a multi-award-winning folk duo, who are impressing audiences across the country with their innovative and captivating take on the folk tradition. Described by Mark Radcliffe as sounding ‘like two halves of one voice’ and by Kate Rusby as ‘absolutely amazing’, Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere combine breath taking vocal harmonies and melodies, delivering original songs that are inspired and rooted in the landscape and history of the British Isles. As well as crafting unique and engaging original material, Ninebarrow also take a wide-range of traditional folk songs and rework them in their own, distinctive way.

In 2017, the duo were nominated at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in the ’Horizon’ category for ‘Best Emerging Artist’. One of the highest accolades in their genre, it was made even more exceptional because it was only a few months prior to this that Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere relinquished their jobs as a teacher and GP in favour of a full-time music career.

25/04/16 Welcome back Serve On to Woodford Village Hall!

posted May 18, 2016, 4:35 AM by Rob Macdonald

The Management Committee was delighted to welcome Serve On back to Woodford Village Hall on Monday, 25 April.  Serve On volunteers gave incredible help and support in the refurbishment of the Hall in 2014, when this project was adopted as the pilot for their newly launched Community Support Teams.

This time, however, the volunteers were not wielding sledge hammers or paint brushes, but camp beds! These they set up along the length of the Hall so they could catch an hour or two of well-deserved sleep after a gruelling five day exercise – Fake Quake – across the West Country.  This exercise recreated some of the scenarios that will be faced by members of Serve On’s international Response Team. Trainees had spent those five days in different ‘disaster situation’ locations including Salisbury Plain, and brought the exercise to a close with a restorative forty winks on the floor of the Woodford Village Hall.

Serve On is a Salisbury based charity and if you would like to find out more about them, go to

posted Apr 18, 2016, 1:39 AM by Rob Macdonald

With great anticipation, a new four-speaker professional sound system has been installed at Woodford Village Hall. It had it's first outing today as a packed audience attended Film Night for a showing of 'Bridge of Spies'. The new system (kindly selected and installed by Chris Down) was warmly received, allowing high quality sound to be delivered evenly throughout the hall. It is expected that the new system will benefit a wide variety of events in the hall.

Football - and a local team from the villages played a team from St Paul's Church at Middle Woodford recreation ground last Sunday (10th April). The visitors, with a very youthful and talented team, won 6-2 in a very good spirited and entertaining encounter. Woodford won the best dressed team award!

We will be hoping to arrange some more friendly games in the future.
