Welcome to the WESTEST 2 Online Writing Technical Assistance Website. Writing is one of the most powerful methods of communication, and providing students with quality writing instruction is a priority in West Virginia schools. Students must be taught to articulate their thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively. To measure this ability, the West Virginia Department of Education requires all public school students in grades 3-11 to take the WESTEST 2 Online Writing Assessment, which is now a session of WESTEST 2 Reading/Language Arts. The purpose of this site is to provide technical assistance in the preparation for and administration of the WESTEST 2 Online Writing Assessment. The site, which is intended for teachers, administrators, county and school personnel, students and parents, provides a variety of resources for writing instruction and assessment. Simply click  on the links in the menu at the left to access these resources.
This website is being developed with the help of members of the WESTEST 2 Online Writing Technical Advisory Committee, which is comprised of classroom teachers, instructional coaches, technology coordinators and county test coordinators. Although we are releasing the website so that teachers, students, parents, and county and school administrators can begin using the resources immediately, please be advised that the site will continue to be updated throughout the school year. If you have any ideas or suggestions for resources to include on this site, please let us know.
For more information or to submit suggestions, please contact Dr. Vaughn G. Rhudy, WESTEST 2 Online Writing Coordinator, at 304-558-2546, Ext. 53205, or by e-mail at vrhudy@access.k12.wv.us.
