Installing Ubuntu Hardy on Compal JHL90

I purchased this notebook from which is a rebranded Compal JHL90

I installed Ubuntu Hardy 64 bit on it, and I also compiled a custom kernel from stock sources for 2.6.27-rc4 for it to try to get the wireless card to work, to no avail.

Ubuntu Hardy does not come with drivers for the Intel WiFi Link 5100 wireless card; the card was recognized when compiling the compat-drivers, see discussion in Ubuntu forums. In an attempt to use built-in drivers and in the hope to fix the suspend issue, I tried compiling a 2.6.27-rc4 kernel from stock sources, but the same problems persist.  I believe the issue may lie somewhere with the RF Kill switch--this unit has both a hardware switch and a software switch--but I've run out of things to try.

I just stumbled over a Compal kernel module, maybe this is another thing to try.
