Welcome to Mrs. Beliveau's WRMS Math Website
About me: I have always enjoyed math! I guess it was natural then, that after graduating from Keene State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1983, I began teaching 7th and 8th grade math. As trends in education changed and my interest in teaching math grew, I went back to school and in 2005, earned a Master's Degree in Middle School Mathematics Education from Plymouth State University. I am now in my 41th year of teaching math, 39 of them at Winnisquam Regional Middle School! One of my greatest professional pleasures is when a former student tells me how they are using the skills they learned when they were in my classroom.
About my class: Grade 8 Algebra Extended Math is a half year of math that covers grade 8 skills that are not part of the algebra 1 curriculum to prevent gaps, and reinforces algebra 1. It meets for three 30 day rotations at the end of the day. It is our way of making sure that students who take high school level Algebra 1 at WRHS so not skip any topics in the grade 8 curriculum. We use the Envisions Program for Grade 8 material and Pearson Algebra 1 text. Each student will receive a textbook. I am also assigning each student a TI 84 graphing calculator to use throughout the year.
A major goal in math class is for students to learn to communicate and demonstrate their understanding of mathematics effectively. For this reason many of the class/homework assignments will focus on thinking about mathematical connections, exploring patterns and applying content to new situations. I understand that math can be difficult for some students, so I strive to use a variety of teaching methods while maintaining high expectations of both the students and myself. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
