The Yellow Room students have been staying busy each and every day. We have our daily routine but sometimes therapy schedules make us have to adapt and everyone has been quite flexible which is in itself an important life skill. We has been busy learning the names of their classmates as well as recognizing printed names. We are working on self care skills including taking responsibility for hanging up outerwear and backpacks and taking care of one's own snack/ lunch items. Some students are working on building their first names using matching letters or independent of a model and many students are working on independent work tasks. Everyone works at their own ability level. We've built a MAT MAN together and reviewed our body parts and their functions (ex: eyes to see, arms to reach, etc.) We've been painting, counting, playing, and moving to music. We hope you enjoyed our "All About Me" books. During group times we have been following directions with fun vocabulary items, learning about the weather as it relates to us going outside or not, enjoying action songs and good stories, and guessing the contents of Miss Denise's feely bags. Pete the Cat is our current favorite storybook character.
We are now fully immersed in our fall theme. We will learn several apple songs and chants. In one song we spell out the word “APPLE” to the tune of BINGO. It goes like this: There was a farmer, had a tree, his apples were so tasty, A P P L E, A P P L E His apples were so tasty. Similar to BINGO we remove one letter each time and replace it with a clap until we have only claps. We will focus on the concept of change, the season of fall, and pumpkins/ scarecrows. We picked pumpkins to the song "I Saw a Pumpkin" and we will be dancing to both the Apple and Pumpkin Pokeys. .
We will continue to go outside to play daily so please dress your child in layers so he/ she will be comfortable both outside and inside. We have been so blessed by all the warm weather.
Many thanks to those of you who have sent in your decorated scarecrow. They are awesome and your children are so proud of their creations....such creative ideas. Our scarecrows are so diverse:) If you haven’t yet decorated your scarecrow, we hope you can do so soon..
