Dear Parents,

Grades closed Friday January 20th and report cards will be sent home Friday January 27th. Please know that this will be the last time elementary report cards will be sent home in hard copy. Beginning with the June 2017 report cards, parents will need to access report cards through iParent (our student service portal). This is also where we get our emergency contact information for families. This is a good time of year to update any changes to your emergency contact information.

Register for iParent

Please click the button above to begin the registration process if you have not registered your child. Should you have any problems registering in iParent please email Donna Cushman at donna.cushman@wpsk12.org. If you have already registered for iParent, you can log in to review or update your information.

Kindergarten registration will take place for our 2017/2018 incoming kindergarten students on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 from 9 AM -12 PM and on Thursday, January 26th from 12 – 3 PM. This is your opportunity to drop off registration paperwork. Children need not attend. If you know of any new families that have moved to your neighborhood, please tell them to contact the Greenwood School at 781-246-6460.

Our second grade completed their ancestry research projects and shared all that they learned about the many different cultures from which their ancestors immigrated. They shared these projects with our school community and their families. It was a wonderful culminating activity that was enjoyed by all.

Have a great week!

Regards,
Deb Collura

The AuthorFest planning committee has been busy all school year making sure that AuthorFest 2017 is a blast. This year, we will welcome three author/illustrators into our school: the fourth and third graders will be captivated by Matt Tavares, the second and first graders will be inspired by Brain Lies, and our kindergartners will share a laugh with writer/illustrator Scott Magoon.

Download the Book Order Form and return to the school to purchase inscribed and signed books from these authors at a discounted price. Books can be ordered from any or all authors, not just the one visiting your child’s classroom. Remember, signed books make great gifts (just specify the name to be inscribed on each). Completed order forms must be returned to the Greenwood PTO by Friday, February 3rd

Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

AuthorFest is scheduled to roll into our school April 10th – 13th, the week before April vacation. AuthorFest is a week full of fascinating author visits to our school. Authors engage with the children, share insights on how they developed, illustrated and edited their books, and lead interactive activities. What better way to send the kids off to vacation than to have them spend time with nationally recognized children’s authors and illustrators. Don’t forget to Google your favorite author, as all of our visitors have wonderful websites!

4th Grade Moving on Celebration Video

Attention Fourth Grade Parents and Guardians:,

I would like to do a video*** for our Fourth Grade Moving OnCelebration.  On the day of the ceremony I will give each student his/her own complimentary DVD as a gift.  If you would like your child to be in the video, please provide the following photos no later than Friday, March 3rd (the sooner the better!)

I WOULD LIKE 3 PHOTOS OF EACH CHILD:
  1. baby photo of your child.
  2. A photo of your child around 4 to 6 years of age.
  3. A current photo of your child.
Please also feel free to submit candid photos,  preferably with classmates, as I will use as many of the candid photos as possible.

You can send your photos in one of two ways:
  1. E-mail the photos as .jpgs to:   mary.doherty@wpsk12.org
Please put your child’s name in the “subject” line.

  2. Burn the photos as .jpgs to a CD (with your child’s name on it) and drop it in my office. Please do not send paper photos
If you have any questions, please call me at (781) 245-4573.

Mary Doherty, R.N.

***Please note***
THESE PICTURES DO NOT GO IN THE YEARBOOK…THAT IS A SEPARATE PROJECT!

If your child is ill, please keep him/her at home for his/her well being and that of the other class members. Here are some guidelines to help you decide if your child should attend school:
  1. The state requires that any child with a strep infection complete a full 24 hours of antibiotics before returning to school.
  2. The state also recommends children remain free of a temperature greater than 100.4 degrees for 24 hours before returning to school.
  3. Children must not have any episodes of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
  4. All children with moderate to severe cold symptoms (including green nasal discharge, chronic cough, or flu-like symptoms) should remain at home. These illnesses are most often caused by a virus and are easily spread to others. Because most young children are unable to blow their noses properly, dispose of used tissues, and cover their mouths consistently when they cough/sneeze, they should stay home until their symptoms abate.
  5. Children with an unidentified rash that is spreading and/or worsening should not come to school until it has been diagnosed. Children with a rash (such as poison ivy) may come to school but the rash should be covered if possible.
Please consider the health of all the students and staff when determining if your child needs to stay home. It is our aim to keep everyone healthy.

If you should have any questions, feel free to contact me at 781-245-4573.
Mary Doherty, R.N.
