“If you are a parent open doors to unknown directions to the child so he can explore. Don't make him afraid of the unknown, give him support.”  ― Osho

Dear Parents,

I hope all the moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday!  Mark your calendars for our Spring Learning Fair Thursday May 21st from 6:15 – 7:30 p.m. We invite you and your children to join us for what we are calling a Literacy Extravaganza! Our goal is to make this evening not only a celebration of the reading and writing the children have accomplished during the school year but also an informative evening for our families to learn more about the English/Language Arts Common Core Standards and what they mean for your child’s education. We will be highlighting informational reading and writing standards and the speaking and listening standards demonstrating with student work how the standards progresses through the K-4 curriculum.  We hope you can join us!

I am looking for parent help on Monday, May 18th, anytime and Wednesday, May 20th1-2:30 PM  — to prepare for Spring Learning Fair's Literacy Extravaganza. Pleasego to VolunteerSpot to register to help. (It's easy and you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on VolunteerSpot. And, VolunteerSpot does not share your email address with anyone.) Thank you for your consideration.

Our third and fourth grade students will be taking the EOY PARCC ELA assessments on Tuesday May 12th.  Please avoid taking students from school during these dates.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation. This will conclude our testing for the school year.

Have a great week!

It is time to finalize the 2015-16 Committee Chair and PTO Board positions. Please take time to review these positions and consider whether you or someone you know may be interested in one of these roles.

For those interested in the PTO board,  attached is the PTO Board nomination form, description of positions, and explanation of the election process [PDF]At this time, a nominee for the Secretary or VP role would be uncontested. But any position may be considered for nomination and an election will take place. This is a GREAT opportunity for anyone interested in a leadership position, getting involved in the community, and much more.  Nominations forms are DUE, Wednesday, MAY 27

Review Open Committe Chair and Team positions for 2015-16 in the attached Committees & Chairs Transition [PDF]. ANY position can be co-chaired. Please emailgreenwoodpto@gmail.com with interest or questions.

We are very excited to help create a SUPERB group of PTO leaders for next year! Transition and training periods will be built in. Many active volunteers graduate out of the school this year. It would be a great loss for your children not to have exposure to the wonderful programs provided by the PTO.

Thank you in advance for all your efforts and time. Volunteers truly make a difference in our school and our children's lives. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Teacher Appreciation Success!

The school community is very fortunate to have Sarah DiFrenna in their midst! She went WAY above and beyond this week of Teacher Appreciation, with something special for the staff every single day, and with the grand finale of a Seafood by the Seaside luncheon this afternoon. The staff was blown away, as were the PTO members who attended to help out a bit. Thank you to anyone who contributed. And huge thanks to Sarah for being both the captain and crew of all that was concepted, cooked, baked, purchased, designed, decorated, lugged and shared — with a very delighted staff whom felt very appreciated and very lucky to be a part of the Greenwood School.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and either bought lemonade or helped with the stand. The kids were truly amazing with their marketing and customer service skills. This is always one of my favorite days of the year and with your help, we raised $836 for the
Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.

Some people have asked if they can still donate and the answer is YES! Donate to Lemond-Aid Day via PayPal and support the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.
We are just $164 away from our goal of $1000!
