The Wakefield Music Department is excited to announce the annual Elementary Choir Concert!

The show will be held on March 6, 2014 at 7 pm and will be in the Galvin Middle School Auditorium.  The 4th grade students have been working on music for this performance all year and we would love to share an evening of music with you! The choir will perform one song that includes all Wakefield Elementary 4th grade students on the same stage. Students have been sent home with half sheets of colored paper with details that 4th grade parents need to know. If you did not receive this information or you have questions, please direct them to Mrs. Porter. We look forward to seeing you there!

Get excited for the Gator Gallop!! Shake off winter: get up and go! This is THE big fundraiser of the year. We need your engagement for it to be successful! The Gator Gallop takes place on Saturday, March 29 at Lake Quannapowitt. It consists of a chip-timed 5k run/walk beginning at 9:30 AM and a Kids’ 1-mile Fun Run beginning at 9:00 AM. This can be a fun event for the whole family!

Your child is bringing home a pledge packet today. Each child should ask family, friends and neighbors to sponsor him/her, to gain the entry fee to participate in either the 1-Mile Fun Run (minimum of $10 raised) or the 5k (minimum of $25 raised).  Any additional money that a student raises will go right back into the school!

In addition, 10% of our proceeds will be donated to the Wakefield Educational
Foundation, which should encourage engagement with the larger Wakefield community. Anyone, from anywhere, can register to run/walk the Gator Gallop on Saturday, March 29! Spread the word!

Learn more or register at www.GatorGallop.com!  (Please note, Greenwood students will be registered after the sponsorship period.)

“It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.” — Oscar Wilde

Welcome back! I would like to thank Colleen Guida and her amazing committee of parent volunteers for coordinating our annual Authorfest celebration. There is a tremendous amount of planning that takes place throughout the year, from booking authors, writing grants, to coordinating the week-long schedule. It is wonderful to have authors and illustrators come and share their craft with the children, they are truly inspirational to our young writers.

Our week long celebration culminated with our K-2 character parade with students dawning crowns and posters illustrating their favorite characters and books, as well as the amazing books our 3rd and 4th grade students crafted.  As we bring to a close our annual Authorfest celebration we thank all the volunteers that helped make this week so memorable for the children!

Third and fourth grade parents, mark your calendars as the ELA MCAS testing period is fast approaching. We kindly ask that you do not plan any appointments, vacations, etc… during the testing window. We ask that students come to school on time the day of testing.  Should students arrive after testing begins they will be unable to take the test with their class. Assessments begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. The dates are as follows:

  • Grade 4 ELA Long Composition — Tuesday March 18th
Long Composition Make-Up Thurs. March 27th.
  • Grade 3 ELA Reading – Wednesday March 19th and Thursday March 20th
  • Grade 4 ELA Reading – Monday March 24th and Tuesday April 25th
Warm regards,
Deb Collura
