“The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore they attempt the impossible, and achieve it, generation after generation.”
— Pearl S. Buck

Dear Parents,

A reminder that Wednesday, December 14 is an early release day for students. Lunch will be served.

As the weather turns cold we ask that students come dressed appropriately. Students go out to recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees. We do require students to remain in the office if they are not dressed for the cold weather, which is so disappointing to them. Your assistance in ensuring students come to school with proper clothing for the winter months is greatly appreciated!

Grades 3 and 4 parents please note the important MCAS dates in the Upcoming Dates section of this newsletter. We know that students perform best when they can take tests with familiar test takers and their classmates. We ask families to avoid planning vacations, doctor/dentist appointments, etc. during the following testing windows. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this important request.

Have a great week!

Thank you to the generous Greenwood families who contributed to the Wakefield Holiday Shop. A special thanks to North Star Realtors of Wakefield. The agents hosted a toy drive to benefit this wonderful cause with overwhelming results.
Because of your generosity and kindness, many Wakefield families will enjoy happy holidays this year. Many of you have been there for us year after year. You are the true spirit of the season and, as always, your generosity is appreciated.
As a reminder, Massachusetts Department of Public Health screenings will be conducted this month at the Greenwood School:
  • Kindergarten: hearing
  • Grade 1: vision, hearing, BMI (height & weight)
  • Grades 2 & 3: vision & hearing
  • Grade 4: vision & BMI (height & weight)
Read more about these screenings at GreenwoodPTO.org.

The focus of the Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF) is carried out through the popular S.T.A.R.S. program that enables you to recognize a special teacher, aide, specialist, or office professional by making a monetary donation on behalf of an individual whom you feel helped your child achieve academic excellence or created an exceptional environment in which your child could learn. This special person will receive a lovely certificate of appreciation from the individual(s) who donated on his or her behalf. This is just another fabulous way to recognize academic excellence by our wonderful staff in the Wakefield Public Schools. Learn how you can recognize a Wakefield educator's commitment to educational excellence via the S.T.A.R.S. program .

SportsZone 101: final session this week

Wakefield Academy will be offering K-8 students half-day programs this fall at the Galvin Middle School. Since individual elementary schools were unable to support this program on-site, we are excited to offer this to students from ALL elementary schools at the Galvin for a district-wide experience. Parents must arrange transportation and students should be checked in at the community entrance (left entrance by auditorium). The next session is December 14.

Please return registration form to the main office at your child's school. Contact SportsZone 101 President/CEO, Nick Face, at nface@sportszone101.com with any questions around this program.
