PARENT/TEACHER CONFERNCE DATES
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd from 12:00-2:15 p.m. Conferences for Grade 5 are by appointment only. Grade 6, 7, and 8 no appointment is necessary. Grade 6 teachers will meet with parents in their respective classrooms. Grade 7 teachers will be located in the Plansky Gym. Grade 8 teachers will be located in the Cafeteria. Grade 7 and 8 Team C/F will be located in the Cafeteria. In an effort to reduce wait time for Grade 6, 7 and 8 conferences, we are asking parents if your last name begins with M-Z please attend the conferences on Wednesday, April 3rd from 12:00-2:15 p.m. If you were unable to attend the conferences on Wednesday, March 27th please feel free to attend during this session. There will be no evening conferences. Please call the Galvin Middle School Office at 781-246-6410 for any additional information. April 3rd is an Early Release Day with dismissal at 11:20 a.m.
GRADE 5 INCOMING PARENT ORIENTATION

Grade 5 Incoming Parent Orientation will be held on Wednesday, May 1st from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Galvin Middle School Auditorium for parents of incoming Grade 5 students. Please join the PTO at 7:00 p.m. for their monthly meeting after the orientation in the Paulson Library.
CLOTHING DRIVE APRIL 1-APRIL 5
Are you looking for a good use for clothing that no longer fits any of your children? There will be a used clothing drive next week to benefit “Cradles to Crayons” on April 1st through April 5th. Gently used clothing of all kinds for kids of all ages will be accepted. Donations should be in a bag and can be placed on the collection table in the main lobby anytime. All donations will be redistributed to homeless and low income children throughout Massachusetts. Please help support this cause!
CELEBRATION OF LEARNING
The Celebration of Learning will take place on Thursday, April 11th at 6:00 p.m. in the Wakefield High School Cafeteria. Tickets are Adults $10 and Students $7. Tickets are available in the main office.
On Wednesday night, April 10, 2013, the Wakefield Visual Arts Department is hosting “Arts Night”. This evening event is held at the Galvin Middle School from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. Every school in town participates in the celebration and high school students are present to demonstrate painting, drawing, computer graphics, ceramics, video and photography.

STAFF APPRECIATION COMMITTEE NEEDS CANS FOR DECORATIONS
The Galvin staff luncheon will be in May and the committee is already working on decorations and is in need of some cans. If you have any of these cans below please bring them to the Galvin where there will be a box outside the office. Pastene Kitchen Ready 28oz and/or Progresso Soup size cans. BANKING AT GALVIN
The Savings Bank has started its banking program again at the Galvin Middle School. There is a drop off box in the Main Lobby for deposits. Banking day will be every Tuesday.

If your child is going to be absent you must call the Galvin Middle School at 781-246-6410 and press “1” for the Child Safety Line before 9:00 a.m. If your child will be absent for more than one day, please leave that information as well. If your child is going to be late please call the Child Safety Line and state the reason for being late.
Parents may request homework assignments to be sent to the office after two (2) consecutive days of regular absence. All requests should be called into the Main Office at 781-246-6410 by 9:00 a.m. of the second day of absence. Requests for homework should not be left on the Child Safety Line.
In order to be dismissed from school, a note signed by a parent/guardian, stating the specific reason for dismissal, must be brought into the Main Office before school starts by the student being dismissed. Please also indicate the child’s first and last name on the dismissal note. Parents/guardians MUST come into the Main Office to pick up and sign out their child for dismissal. Students are not allowed to walk to a dentist or doctor’s appointment once they arrive at school. A student must be dismissed to a parent or o another adult. A new policy has been put in place that anyone dismissing a student needs to present their picture identification to the office. This is for the safety of all students.
The Galvin PTO continues to recycle paper. Newspaper, office and copy paper, junk mail, catalogs, magazines and paperback books are accepted. Bring your donations to the big green and yellow dumpsters on the parking lot side of the Galvin Middle School.
No phonebooks or cardboard.
Unless the matter is an emergency in nature, messages will not be taken for students. With the exception of lunches, items will not be accepted by the Main Office for delivery to students.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULE
Regular meetings of the Wakefield School Committee are scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, except on holidays. The first meeting of each month is the business meeting and the 2nd meeting of the month is the educational meeting. The meetings are held at the WCAT Studio located at the rear of Wakefield High School, entrance next to the Field House. School Committee Agendas are posted on the website the Friday before the scheduled meeting. The regularly scheduled School Committee meetings are carried live on Channel 16 and rebroadcast throughout the week.
