News from the Nurse

A parent contacted me today that twice in the past month she has found multiple tics on her child. The child was seen by MD and was told they were deer tics.
The child is being treated with antibiotics in case of possible exposure  to Lyme Disease.
The student plays soccer, using both the field here at Dolbeare and other fields in town. The mother relays that during game time the children often sit on the grass. The mother is thinking that is when and where her child picked up the tics.
This is just an FYI so you will be vigilant in checking family members for tics, especially if they have been sitting on grass near a wooded area.
If you go on line you can find pictures and descriptions of deer vs dog tics and symptoms of Lyme Disease. If you have any concerns after removing a tic, save it in a sealed baggie and call your MD for advice on follow-up.
