Dolbeare on the Move
This is our last edition of Dolbeare on the Move for the 2014-2015 school year. We hope you enjoyed our newsletter!
We are finishing our studies on Japan this month. Ask your child what they thought of the International Expo!
You can use this great website from Scholastic to get a basic idea of what reading level books are. Help guide your children to those "just right" books by seeing what the general grade level the text is written on.
Scholastic Book Clubs
The Scholastic Online Book Club is a great way to to buy great, low cost books for your family while giving bonus points to your teacher and the media center. The more you order, the more you give to the school. The books come to the Media Center and get distributed to your child's classroom. Orders are placed twice a month, once around the first and again around the 15th.

Summer school and Wakefield Academy will be held at Dolbeare over the summer, under the direction of Sue Ward and Beverly Elcewicz.
WEF S.T.A.R.S (School Teachers Are Really Special) PROGRAM
Sponsored by the
WAKEFIELD EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
The Wakefield Educational Foundation invites you to participate in the S.T.A.R.S. program. Through this program you can acknowledge those teachers and staff who have made a special contribution to your child’s education. This is a great way to say “thank you” at the end of the school year.
S.T.A.R.S. (School Teachers Are Really Special) allows donors to contribute to the W.E.F. grant program while acknowledging a special teacher or staff person. When you make a donation, the honoree will receive a personalized card acknowledging that a gift was made by you in their honor (the amount is not mentioned). The card is printed on beautiful white linen stock embellished with silver foil. At the same time you are putting much-needed funds directly into the Wakefield Educational Foundation which underwrites the cost of special programs, equipment or services to enhance the learning experience for students at all grade levels. Since our inception in 1989, WEF has awarded over $205,000 in grants.
Simply fill out the attached form and return it with your check payable to W.E.F., at P.O. Box 1752, Wakefield, MA 01880 or place in an envelope addressed to WEF STARS and leave it at the front office at your school. If you have any questions, please email us HERE
Dear Dolbeare Families,
We have so much to celebrate as the 2014-2015 school year comes to a close this coming week! From implementing a new writing program, to piloting our language lab and the creation of Duncan Fireball the Dragon, I hope all the children leave with fond memories from the school year. We have tried to capture many of the memories in our first annual Dolbeare Writing Magazine (see below).
It is also a time of farewells as we bid goodbye to some favorite faces. First, long time teacher Mrs. Hall, who has more than 30 years in education, will be retiring from the classroom. We are grateful for all she has given to Wakefield students and our school. She will be dearly missed and her legacy will live on in the countless lives she has touched throughout her teaching. Second, I want to send a huge thank you out to our outgoing PTO presidents, Pam Roberts and Kristin Dunlap. These two ladies along with their steering committee - Pam Kent, Jen DeCourcy and Debi Rogers - have gone above and beyond to support our students and our staff. I am grateful to them all for their partnership.
As we wrap up the year, we have final celebrations and new beginnings. First, placement letters will be sent electronically from the district office to all parents/guardians of current K-3 students on the evening of Sunday, June 21st in preparation for our 'New Beginnings Day' on Monday, June 22nd. On Monday morning, from 10:05-10:50am, children in these grades will visit their next year's classroom to meet their new teacher and fellow classmates. This 45-minute visit is intended to eliminate summer worries over the fall transition. Students in fourth grade will be involved in a dress rehearsal with Mr. Zini, and any children leaving our school next year will participate in a special project with Mrs. Ripley and Mr. Cook during this event. On Tuesday, the spotlight will shift to our 4th graders for our annual Moving On ceremony. This is bittersweet moment as we bid them farewell and highlight the remarkable accomplishments of this wonderful group of students.
Thank you all for your ongoing support this year. Both personally and professionally, it was a busy year and I continue to be appreciative of your generosity and the bright spirit of our students. Seeing our students' smiles each and every day and learning from them is truly the best part of my job! I will look forward to seeing all of you again in September.
Dolbeare Writing Magazine
We are pleased to present our first annual Dolbeare Writing Magazine. Take a look at the incredible writing our students have been doing and some favorite memories from this year. We hope you enjoy our digital magazine! (All names have been removed for student privacy)
Dolbeare News - June Edition

Literacy Showcase
All of our students have worked hard this year and have blossomed into wonderful readers and writers. Over the summer, please encourage your child(ren) to read and write as much as possible. I hope you will take advantage of the books and programming offered through the Beebe Library this summer. The staff there is a wonderful resource and can help direct students to some outstanding books. Enjoy a wonderful summer!
Summer App Showcase
Each week, this section will feature a different app or program that can really help your child keep up their school skills over the summer break.
This Weeks App:Our Story
Our Story is a wonderful reading app for kids and families. Families can gather around the iPad and create stories using family photos. Imagine a talking photo album where parents and kids can narrate the story and the sit back and read their creations.
Last Push For Books
This week, the remaining overdue book notices went home to families. Please remember to bring in any books as soon as possible. The Media Center is slowly transforming as the migration to the new system comes closer. In order to have the best possible inventory match, I need all the schools books back and on the shelves.
Remember: If you know the book has been lost or damaged, please write a check for replacement to the Dolbeare PTO and place it in their mailbox.
