|You can use this great website from Scholastic to get a basic idea of what reading level books are. Help guide your children to those "just right" books by seeing what the general grade level the text is written on.|
Scholastic Book Clubs
The Scholastic Online Book Club is a great way to to buy great, low cost books for your family while giving bonus points to your teacher and the media center. The more you order, the more you give to the school. The books come to the Media Center and get distributed to your child's classroom. Orders are placed twice a month, once around the first and again around the 15th.

A Farewell Message from Ann Maninno
Over the past 2 ½ year I have had the pleasure of getting to know and work with so many wonderful Wakefield families as both the Early Childhood Coordinator and a Special Education Coordinator. During that time I have seen the dedication, love, and commitment that all of you have to your children, their education, and the schools of Wakefield. It has truly been inspiring. I have loved learning about your children, celebrating their successes, and helping to foster their educations.
I wish you and your children all of the best in the future as I leave the district and pursue new opportunities. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your families.
Ann Mannino, MA
Special Education Coordinator
The Wakefield Public Schools Technology Department is hosting our 2nd annual technology fair at Wakefield High School, on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 6-8pm.
The purpose of the event is to introduce Wakefield families to various vendors so you will be able to make educated purchasing decisions around technology, both for BYOD and for your own personal use at home.
We'll be showcasing the Acer Chromebooks that we're using at the Galvin MIddle School. Apple, Microsoft, and Dell will also be in attendance with their various device options and service offerings for families looking to purchase a BYOD device for students attending Wakefield Memorial High School. The Worth Ave Group will provide information on purchasing personal device insurance. You'll be able to try out protective sleeves and cases for various devices. You can talk to an information security analyst about online privacy and safety.
This year, we're also excited to have learning opportunities for the community presented by Wakefield High School teachers and students providing an overview on Google Apps for Education and Social Media as well as high school students to answer questions about their BYOD experience.
We hope you'll be able to join us for this event!
WEF S.T.A.R.S (School Teachers Are Really Special) PROGRAM
Sponsored by the
WAKEFIELD EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
The Wakefield Educational Foundation invites you to participate in the S.T.A.R.S. program. Through this program you can acknowledge those teachers and staff who have made a special contribution to your child’s education. This is a great way to say “thank you” at the end of the school year.
S.T.A.R.S. (School Teachers Are Really Special) allows donors to contribute to the W.E.F. grant program while acknowledging a special teacher or staff person. When you make a donation, the honoree will receive a personalized card acknowledging that a gift was made by you in their honor (the amount is not mentioned). The card is printed on beautiful white linen stock embellished with silver foil. At the same time you are putting much-needed funds directly into the Wakefield Educational Foundation which underwrites the cost of special programs, equipment or services to enhance the learning experience for students at all grade levels. Since our inception in 1989, WEF has awarded over $205,000 in grants.
Simply fill out the attached form and return it with your check payable to W.E.F., at P.O. Box 1752, Wakefield, MA 01880 or place in an envelope addressed to WEF STARS and leave it at the front office at your school. If you have any questions, please email us HERE
