Get your story in the BEL Newsletter!

The BEL Committee is accepting articles for the spring 2019 edition of the BEL Newsletter. Please consider submitting an article and picture highlighting that unique student and employer. We want to know all about the student that amazed you with their excellent work skills and progress through the WorkAbility I program. Share your experiences in the BEL Newsletter!

Be sure to get a signed Release from the student, parent, and employer to send in with your picture and story. The BEL Newsletter Article Request Flyer and the BEL Newsletter Article and Release Submission Form are linked here, are located on the bottom of this page, and can be found on the bottom of the Business, Education & Labor (BEL) page of this site.

Thank you for your support and keep those stories coming; we are so excited to see what spectacular things our WorkAbility 1 students are doing statewide! If you have any suggestions or ideas for the newsletter, please feel free to contact me, or your local Region BEL Representatives.

Subject: Information Sharing from the Programs and Partnerships Unit of the Special Education Division

The California Department of Education, Special Education Division, requests assistance in delivering Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) information to high school sophomores and juniors with disabilities. Applicants who are high school sophomores and juniors during the 2018–19 school year are encouraged to apply. Some high school seniors may also be accepted.

YLF is scheduled to be held at California State University, Sacramento, on July 15–19, 2019. There is no charge to students who participate in this program; all student expenses are sponsored through a public-private partnership.

The 2019 YLF Delegate Applications are currently being accepted. The Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) has made the application available online at Students must complete the application, write an essay, provide letters of recommendation, and participate in an interview. All YLF applications must be completed electronically and emailed to This is a competitive process and not all students will be selected.
