Grades 2 - 5: two books/two weeks
All students are expected to receive weekly access to the media center for circulation purposes. Teachers may opt to send students in small groups or individually. Teachers also may sign up to come as a whole class to circulate. We encourage our students to keep their media accounts current.
A book may be renewed one time, if needed, but only if the student has NO overdues on their account. Students are not allowed to checkout books if they have overdues. Overdue notices are generated and delivered to the classroom teacher every other Thursday. Student media overdues are accessible on the parent portal as well as the media catalog through My eClass student portal. Students login in to the media catalog with the same username/password combination that they use to login to My eClass. Once in the media catalog, you can view circulation under the My Info tab.
GCPS policy states that lost and/or damaged book issues must be resolved before circulation privileges can be restored. Fines for hardcover and paperbacks are $15.00 and $5.00, respectively. If the book is found and returned, we will gladly issue a refund of your payment. The automation system will alert the media staff to the fact that the student is owed a refund once a book is returned. Refunds are generated by our bookkeeper and generally are received by mail within two weeks.
Fines are assessed based on the severity of the damage to the book. Most of our damage issues are caused by water bottles, pets, and younger siblings.Thanks for your support in helping our students learn proper book care.
