Woodward Academy's Rahim Shakoor '12 and Jason Sigalos '12 finished third at the Greenhill Round Robin this past weekend in Dallas, TX. Held prior to the season-opening Greenhill Fall Classic, the Greenhill Round Robin brings together 16 of the top high school policy debate teams in the country for two days of intense competition. The 16-team field is divided into two pods of eight teams that each debate one another during the preliminary rounds with two judges rendering decisions in each debate. The teams with the most ballots from each pod then meet in a final round to crown the champion. Competing against teams from Centennial (Maryland), Georgetown Day School (DC), Greenhill (TX), Homewood-Flossmoor (Illinois), Kinkaid (Texas), Montgomery Bell Academy (Tennessee), and St. Mark's (Texas), Woodward finished with ten ballots to tie with Georgetown Day School for first place. Woodward and GDS split the ballots in their round so the tie was broken based on speaker points in favor of GDS.In addition to finishing in third place as a team, Sigalos earned the third place individual speaker award at the Round Robin. Following the Round Robin, three Woodward teams competed in the Greenhill Fall Classic. Shakoor and Sigalos advanced to the double-octafinals and Sigalos was named eleventh speaker.
