The Woodward Academy Novice Debate Team continued its strong early-season performance this past weekend at the Johns Creek Gladiator Debates. Competing against 33 teams from throughout Georgia, freshmen Mia Gill and Sahil Patel (making his debut) posted a strong 4-1 record in the preliminary rounds (including wins over Chattahoochee, Druid Hills, Milton, and Wheeler and a loss to Alpharetta) and cleared to elimination rounds as the tournament's fourth seed. Mia and Sahil were defeated in the quarterfinals by Sequoyah to finish tied for fifth place.
In addition to their accomplishments as a team, Mia earned the Top Speaker Award in the novice division, besting 65 of her peers. This is an incredibly impressive accomplishment for a true novice debater competing in only her third tournament ever. Congratulations to Mia and Sahil!
