The final tournament of the first semester for the War Eagles was the Ohio Valley Invitational at the University of Kentucky. One of the largest invitationals in the Southeast region, Ohio Valley brought together schools from Alabama, DC, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. While most of the squad was at home preparing for final exams, Woodward fielded one team in both the Varsity and Novice divisions—and both reached the elimination rounds. In Varsity, Nasir Nanjee '12 and Karthik Srinivasan '13 compiled a 4-2 record in the preliminary rounds with wins over Alpharetta (GA), Sylvania Northview (OH), River Hil (MD), and New Trier (IL) and losses to Perry (OH) and Georgetown Day (DC). Advancing to the elimination rounds as the tournament's 31st seed, Nasir and Karthik bowed out in the double-octafinals to the top team from Stratford Academy (GA). This was the first national tournament in which the duo reached elimination rounds this season. In Novice, Mia Gill '15 and Sahil Patel '15 also reached elimination rounds in their first national tournament. Like their varsity counterparts, Mia and Sahil posted a 4-2 record in the preliminary rounds—defeating Niles West (IL), Barstow (MO), Niles North (IL), and McDowell (NC) while being bested by Chattahoochee (GA) and Alpharetta (GA). They advanced to the elimination rounds as the 14th seed where they were defeated in the octafinals by a different team from Alpharetta. The successful showing in both divisions was a fitting conclusion to a fall semester in which Woodward racked up an impressive slate of accomplishments. The War Eagles will be back in action in January as they begin the second semester schedule.
