The debate team headed west, joining teams from around Georgia at the Peach State Classic at Carrollton High School. In the end, Tripp Haskins '17 and Max Abramson '17 emerged as co-champions and Gibran Essa '17 and Crawford Kennedy '17 took 3rd place. Reaching the semifinals earned all four debaters qualifications to the Georgia Forensics Coaches Association Varsity State Championships in March. They are Woodward's first four students to qualify for the 2016 tournament.
A number of other students achieved success as well, with Arjun Srinivasan '18, Ali Abdullah '17, Liliana Burgess '16 and Myles Powell '16 reaching the quarterfinals. Burgess was 4th overall speaker, Abramson 5th, Ethan Cheng '17 7th and Powell 10th.
Not to be outdone, the Novice team made their JV debut. Malachi Robinson '19 and Joanna Kastle '19 did particularly well, reaching the semifinals of the tournament. Robinson was 2nd speaker and Kastle was 4th. All five novices who competed in JV achieved their first Junior-Varsity wins. Congrats, novices!
