I hope you all have had a wonderful February break with your children.  I can hardly believe we have passed the 100th day of school already.  I am looking forward to Parent/Teacher conferences in April to meet with you and share your child's progress.  I will be setting up Sign Up Genius in the middle of March for all of you to sign up to meet with me.

If your child has not had a chance to be a Guest Reader in our class, please encourage them to sign up.  We have a Guest Reader every Friday.  It is one of our favorite times of the week!

In math we have been learning how to add two and three digit numbers with regrouping.  We have also been working on decomposing two and three digit numbers to subtract.  Your child should be bringing home class work just about everyday that shows how they are doing with this skill.  Children should be continuing to practice math facts from 0-20 for addition and subtraction.  Practicing these facts for 10 min. each night will support your child as math concepts become more difficult.  We will continue to graph our progress with math facts each Friday.  

In Reading we are working on describing the characters and setting in a story as well as summarizing a story.  Students will need to be able to summarize a story in writing to pass the end of the year reading expectation for grade 2.  You can support this at home by listening to your child read each night and asking them questions about the character, setting.  Also, ask them to tell you who did what at the end of each page of a story.

In spelling we are working on strategies that good spellers use to spell words correctly.  We have practiced short a, e and i words.  We are also learning to spell words that end in "ture" and "ble."  Ask your child to show you how to spell some of these words.  They are very excited when they can independently spell "big" words.

In Writing, we are drawing pictures of a personal experience to use for a narrative writing piece with a beginning, middle and end.  We are also learning how to use adjectives to make our stories more interesting

If you would like to contribute items to our classroom, we need Lysol wipes.
