Welcome to Mrs. Sweeney's Class

                                            Room 220 October News
Wow!!! What an amazing and energizing start to our school year.  I can hardly believe that it is October already!
We have all been working hard on learning new routines.  It is going to be an amazing year of learning for all of us.

Each Friday, you will get a copy of the Math Fact Fluency assessment your child has taken.  We are graphing our progress as we learn the facts.  Please help your child practice facts from 0-20 for addition and subtraction.  Knowing these facts fluently will help them as the math concepts become more difficult.    I have several websites to help them.   Click on the Math and Reading Homework on the sidebar to access some math games to help your child practice math facts.
The math assessments will come home each Friday.  Please be sure to check them out to see how your child is progressing with this skill.

Homework:  I have sent home a letter letting your know my homework expectations.  You should listen to your child read each night for 20 minutes.  Even if your child is a fluent reader, listening to them read and talking to them about the characters, setting and plot of the story will help them develop their comprehension skills.  Your child should also be practicing math facts each night for 10 minutes.  Thank you for helping your child with this homework.

In Math we are working on Module 1.  I have sent home information about the math concepts we are learning in this module.  Please let me know if you have not gotten this information or you have questions.  I will be sending home work the children have done.  If a paper is not complete, please do not worry about it.  We do not always do every problem on a sheet.

In Literacy we are reviewing short vowel patterns, consonant clusters and some long vowel patterns.  We are practicing finding the main idea and supporting details to help us understand what we have read.

We will be having a Fall Celebration on October 31.  You will be getting a letter home soon that will give you more information about this celebration.

Some of you have asked for a list of Egg and Nut free foods that are safe to send into school for snack.  Below is a list of foods that Megan Manning has provided for us.
