Honors English 1 is recommended for the highly motivated student who has demonstrated superior writing ability, language usage and reading comprehension skills.  In this course students will be introduced to the intensive study of world literature though varied genre.  In order to meet the rigorous demands of this reading, a summer reading program in advance of taking this course is required.  Composition integral to close critical reading, with emphasis on sophisticated syntax, accurate, logical expression and expansion of ideas is stressed.  Writing types such as those found on IB and AP tests will be introduced with an emphasis on close reading, annotation and independent analysis. Oral presentation skills are introduced and practiced.
